Immediately and right off the bat I’m going to give you the answer you don’t want to hear. Yes and no.
Late last year, I started losing my hair in clumps due to some medication. It seemed like it snapped off wherever you touched it as well. I’m a fine haired babe as it is and I was really FREAKING OUT, I need every hair on my head to stay on my head. I talked to some medical professionals, friends, and other hair stylists. One of the things they all had in common to say was to stop washing it everyday. The thought of that made me just curl my toes up because if I don’t wash my hair I look like Jim Morrison. And I’m not talking about the sexy side of him! I’m talking like oily, dirty, I’ve been too busy rocking out and doing illegal substances this week to care about anything else. No no no. We could not have this.
Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo was a huge disappointment to me. While I can appreciate another non-aerosol to aid me in reducing my carbon footprint in the universe, I can’t hang with this one. You’re better off dumping a bottle of baby powder all over your head and crying about the mess you’ve made. I liked the jasmine scent though. Maybe they should bottle that stuff instead. There is an aerosol version out now since I tried this one. I’ve heard muuuuch better things about that one since.
Ojon Rub-Out Dry Cleanser was the one I tried that I liked the most. I have dark hair and this one didn’t seem to leave as much white residue behind. It uses potato starch, Amazonian white clay, and rice starch. If you’ve never tried another Ojon product before I have to warn you that the scent can be a little overwhelming at first. It will dissipate but just don’t do this right before you run out the door, it will clash with your perfume and the guy next to you on the train will think you’re an attractive female without a sense of smell. I honestly like the scent of Ojon products, but shall I say it’s an acquired taste much like some other fine things in life?
Rene Furterer Naturia is another good one. The only major problem I had with this was that it left a baby pink residue behind on my locks and it took a considerable amount of head flipping and rubbing to remove. Blondes probably wouldn’t have this problem. Hey– at least I finally had some volume. It uses mainly rice starch and that’s it’s claim to fame. I would buy this one again along with the Ojon.
Dry shampoos work as long as you follow the directions exactly and you don’t give up. It took me a few times to get it right. I began by using too much or too little and spraying too close to my scalp. Also, one will work for you while another will not so it’s all a matter of finding the right one for you. Hope I’ve helped! These are small miracles for me because I can now get away with every-other day washes.
