REVIEW: MAC dazzles with their Little Darlings

by Amber on December 1, 2008

in eyeshadow,makeup,new products,product reviews

You’re not going to believe this, but I’ve never personally owned a single jar of MAC pigment before.  That statement alone might have me extricated out of the beauty community, and I know I might get a few emails asking me “How could you?!?” from MAC fanatics.  It’s not that I dislike them at all so hold your fire!  Honestly, I have SO many products that I just haven’t broken down and gotten on the bus… until now.

MAC’s collection of Little Darlings were the perfect opportunity to finally see what all the fuss is about since they feature sets of promo-sized essentials that even the most avid pigment enthusiast would appreciate.  I’ve finally had the experience *cue the angels* and I’m glad that I did.  For $29.50 each, you receive either 5 cool-toned pigments/glitter, or 5 warm-toned pigments/glitter.  The packaging is simple, yet festively adorable and makes them the perfect stocking stuffer or holiday gift for your gal pal.  I love the glossy red circular box!

The warm collection includes Gold Dusk, Gold Mode, Melon, Gold Stroke, and Reflects Antique Gold.  I’m in love with Melon (as I’m sure everyone else is) and the Reflects Antique Gold glitter is so fun!  I think out of the two collections, the warm was the most complimentary configuration of shades.

The cool collection includes Frost, Quietly, Pinked Mauve, Reflects Blackened Red, and Teal.  Normally, cool tones tend to look better on my eyes and I was surprised that I didn’t much care for these colors.  The Pinked Mauve is a great color for me, and the others were just okay.  I’m not sorry that I have these because there are so many uses for pigments than just shadows.

All in all, MAC’s Little Darlings Pigment Collections are a wonderful addition to my cosmetics addiction without breaking the bank.  I could never possibly deplete a regular sized jar so these sizes are perfect at 2.5 grams by weight.  Look for the Little Darlings in Lipglass/Dazzleglass packages and Softsparkle/Eye Pencils.  So cute!

Oh, I really like the Warm collection! =) I love the melon as well! I’ll have to put this on my Christmas list!

While I own both, I find myself reaching more for the warm set. All the colors are gorgeous and the melon pigment makes a great lip gloss :-)

Ooh Tami! Thanks for sharing that tip. I’m going to try Melon as lipgloss now!

Glad I could be of assitance. I just dip the applicator of a clear lip gloss into the pigment and went to town. Let me know how you like it :-)

Oooh, these are nice. You’re right. A regular sized pigment jar seems like just too much. I have one and I don’t see myself running out in even 10 years.

Now, I could really get on the bandwagon with these Little Darlings.

i think – at least as far as i can remember – MAC comes out with these little bottles of pigments for their holiday collections every yr they r different -its how i first tried the pigments years ago and have been hooked on them ever since :)

Hey! I’m also a makeup artist and recently bought my first MAC pigments also! So don’t feel bad. But what I have noticed, I’m not sure if you knew this or not, but Revlon is a branch of MAC. I bought a trio from Revlon which matched a trio from MAC, Revlon works just the same, and is also stunning if you add a little water to the pigment. I will say though, that MAC holds its colour longer, but if you are on a makeup budget its a good way to achieve the same creative looks while saving money!

I have the cool collection but i’m not sure what to do with the colours apart from the obvious of brushing them on my eyelid. Does anyone have any tips on how i can get the most out of them?
