Review: Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash Mascara

No clumps, no smudges.  That’s what I want!  Bare Escentuals added Buxom Lash Mascara to their line of Holy Grail-worthy mascaras and I couldn’t be more pleased.  The brush is just killer, and makes it look like you’re wearing false eyelashes.

buxom1

Aptly titled: “The Sexy Sister of Bare Escentuals”, I believe this hourglass brush makes a big difference.  It doesn’t look like the brush on any of the mascaras I’ve test driven, and believe me.  I’ve tested countless mascaras!

You’ll get some mascara tips & tricks inside the box… yes!  There are tips & tricks to mascara.  I love that Buxom Lash’s formula allows you to build to your heart’s content without getting all clumpy.  It’s just the right viscosity (ooh, Mr. Wizard word) that you can really work it before it dries unlike many mascaras where you’ve got time for 2 passes through your lashes and then after that it looks like spider legs!  I’m lovin’ this one ladies.  Whatcha think?

Review: Olay Professional Pro-X Age Repair Lotion SPF 30

olayspfA few months ago when I saw the clinical data that Olay provided from the research and development for their Pro-X line of skincare products– I was sitting there with my mouth agape.  While I am not a medical professional, in the past I have worked in an environment that provided quantifiable skin measurement data via some pretty state-of-the-art equipment.  That data gave clients the black and white information they needed to help them make the best decisions for their skin concerns.  I’m all for empowerment and arming yourself with the knowledge to make your own choices and that’s one of the many reasons I participate on this site.  I hope you take only what you need from my ramblings and leave the rest!

When I talk about what I think of Olay’s Professional Pro-X line– I have to say: this is not your Grandma’s Oil of Olay!  It’s Olay supercharged, times 10.  While yes, for being part of the Olay family of products, and being available in your local drugstore– the price tags are more than what you may be ready for.  But these aren’t classic Olay products repackaged in flashy red and white bottles just hoping that you’ll pay more for them and not notice they are the same.  Because they are not the same! Total hotness: BECCA Sunset Beach Collection

beccamodelUmm, hi.  Can you say HOT?  When I was at the Makeup Show a few weeks ago, I spent some time at BECCA’s booth and drooled over their wares.  I picked up the Line & Illuminate Pencil in FIJI because I just knew that if I lined my eyes with it like the model in this photo, I would be transformed into looking like her.  The liner looked FAB, but sadly, I didn’t turn into that hot girl.  Boo.

I also picked up a Beach Tint in Watermelon that is to die for, it stays on the lips & cheeks endlessly without drying them out, feels like satin, and tastes delicious!  I was napping on the couch last weekend and I was wearing the Beach Tint on my lips.  My husband said he looked over at me at one point in my nap and all he could see was perfect lips and he did a double take because he thought it was kinda weird.  Duh!  Doesn’t he know that BEAUTY NEVER SLEEPS?  Now I have to have the new color, Raspberry.  I should have picked it up– what was I thinking?  Obviously I wasn’t!

CoverGirl Queen Latifah rocks her birthday party!

On Saturday night, I had one of those rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that I won’t ever forget!  I was fortunate enough to attend Queen Latifah’s birthday party thrown by CoverGirl’s Queen Collection.  Queen Latifah is an incredible, strong, talented, intelligent, and well-respected woman.  There are so many things I love about her– I could go on!  A little after midnight, the curtain dropped and Queen just came out FULL FORCE with her amazing voice and stage presence.  Everyone was going nuts!  As an added surprise, Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, MC Lyte, and DJ Q-Tip also performed, please excuse me if I forgot anyone.  Like Queen said, it was like Dancing With The Stars!  There was so much fabulousness going on that I could hardly keep track, everywhere I turned there was a celeb in my immediate vicinity.  A few people I literally ran into: Tracy Morgan, Raven Symone, Omar Epps, Heavy D, and Spinderella.  Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton weren’t in my sights but I heard they were there.  Hope you had a great birthday, Queen, everyone loves you!  Thanks for treating us to an incredible performance.

Celebrity makeup artist extraordinaire, Sam Fine, created Queen Latifah’s beautiful birthday look with products from CoverGirl:

“For Queen’s birthday party, we wanted to really rev up the glamour. The easiest way to take a look from day to night is to focus on a bold eye statement and add gloss to the lips,” advises Sam. “We made the eyes sparkle to compliment the gorgeous couture corset she had made.”

To get this look, try:

Salon shampoos that don’t let your color go down the drain

Now more than ever, we have to stretch the time we have between hair coloring– whether we do it at-home or at the salon!  Believe it or not, your first line of defense against fading and stripping is sitting in your shower right now.  An excellent color-safe shampoo helps make a world of difference in how your color looks when it’s limits have been stretched, and then stretched again!  A few salon shampoos for color treated hair worth checking out:

1. White Sands Phase One Nourishing Shampoo — Formulated for blondes and brunettes, a special complex of herbal extracts micro-shield the hair to prevent color oxidation.  Leaves behind a glossy shine and a fresh, clean fragrance.  UV filters = extra insurance!

2. Jonathan Product Shampoo Weightless Smooth — This one really helps eliminate some of the negative side effects of color-treating the hair, like frizz and dullness.  The sulfate-free formula gently cleanses, adds softness (but not too soft), shine, and helps fight the frizz.

3. Redken Color Extend Shampoo — Provides defense against all of the factors that can wreck a fab color job.  Environmental aggressors, color-altering minerals in your water, and poor hair condition.  A signature Redken Fade-Resist complex locks your color in, and the bad stuff out.

4. Catwalk Fashionista Shampoo — I often think of Fashionista as “the color-safe shampoo that smells like grape candy”.  It’s gentle, creamy, smells delicious, and leaves behind a glossy sheen.

Review: The Art of Shaving Rose Absolute Shaving Cream

83000I never really thought there was an “art” of shaving.  I mean– it was only a few weeks ago that I discovered that I didn’t have to accept razor nicks and cuts.  I must be a little behind the times or something!  I’ve pretty much always used my shower gel as my shaving cream on my legs too with my disposable razors of death.  I already know, I’m going to H-E-double hockey sticks.  I just dragged that bad boy across my gams and prayed I didn’t bleed.

Since I’ve got the Cadillac of razors now, why not let my legs totally live it up in the lap of luxury?  I think they’ve been suffering long enough.  When I got my hands on a bottle of Rose Absolute Shaving Cream from The Art of Shaving, I looked at it and said “Now this is what I’m talking about!  No ugly metal can to rust in my shower, and it’s pink and white– WOOT WOOT!”  So, I didn’t exactly let out a “WOOT WOOT!”  Leave me alone, this is my story!

This shaving cream smells divine first of all, ladies– we don’t have to accept the scent of  The Best a Man Can Get anymore.  It lathers beautifully for a cream, but it’s in a convenient pump.  It leaves my legs silky smooth and hydrated too.  There’s an entire premium shaving system from The Art of Shaving for us gals now, but if you don’t have time to enjoy the ultimate shaving experience with their Pre-Shave Oil and Ingrown Hair Night Cream, you will get a little taste of luxury with the shaving cream at least.

Are you rocking the electric hairdo?

I don’t know why, but lately I am getting shocked by just about everything I touch.  I must be electric or something because sometimes my husband will plant a smooch on me and our lips will snap with the sound of a shock!  Ouch!  And then there’s the electric hair issue, statically charged hair isn’t exactly cute or in style.  If you’re trying to rock that look– let me help you out a little.

DStat has a static-relief spritz that takes the charge out of your Einstein-looking hairdo.  It doesn’t really have an overpowering fragrance and doesn’t leave a residue behind– I’ve even spritzed it lightly on my jacket which just harbors a static charge for some reason.  On the go?  Try the towelettes.  They kind of resemble a dryer sheet– but they’re infused with the DStat formula.  It’s been really windy here, I better go spritz my hair before the hubby gets home.  He might actually want a kiss without getting shocked today.
