As I perpetually rotate different shampoos and conditioners through my shower doors, I’m learning things about myself. One– I’m one of those people who thinks my hair will “get used” to a shampoo, and two– I like things that smell good. Okay, not prolific revelations, I admit. But in between those thoughts, I was introduced to the new sulfate-free haircare collection from L’Oréal. EverPure promises to keep your haircolor vibrant and free your hair from the chains of sulfates.
For a sulfate-free line, the Moisture Shampoo sure lathers a lot. I honestly think it lathers more than any of the shampoos in my stockpile–you know, in case there’s a hair product famine or something. Since I’m a fan of fragrances I was really taken aback by the rosemary-juniper-mint essences in the shampoo and conditioner. I was standing in the shower thinking, “I just shampooed my hair with a cup of tea! My hair smells like tea! And I LOVE IT!”
After the shampoo/conditioner combo I thought my hair actually felt clean. There was nothing left behind. I thought for a second that maybe this was a clarifying shampoo cleverly disguised as a moisturizing shampoo– but without the whole stripped feeling thing left behind? But it really is a moisturizing shampoo, I promise. My hair was bouncy, but soft, and happy. Yes. My hair was happy. That’s possible, right? My haircolor was also lookin’ good if I do say so myself.
The bottom line: I do recommend Loréal EverPure. It’s one of the keys to my happy hair revelation.

HELLO, I USE THIS SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER. I REALLY LIKE IT VERY MUCH, BECAUSE I COLOR MY HAIR WITH L’OREAL PRODUCTS, BECAUSE I THINK THAT THEY ARE THE BEST. THE ONLY THING THAT I DO NOT LIKE, IS THE SMELL OF THE SHAMPOO AND THE CONDITIONER. IT SMELLS LIKE PEPPERMINT, OR SPEARMINT, IT’S SMELL I DO NOT LIKE AT ALL. IAM VERY SORRY TO SAY THIS, BUT IT REALLY MAKES ME SICK TO SMELL IT. I LOVE ALL OF YOUR PRODUCTS, I BUY THEM ALL THE TIME. I WISH THAT I LIKED THE SMELL OF IT, BUT I REALLY DO NOT. WELL I HAVE EXPRESSED MY OPINION ON IT. I THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR GIVING ME THE TIME TO LET YOU KNOW. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, RENNEA BURGESS.
Hi Rennea!
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the EverPure. What a bummer about the scent in your case, because it’s a great formula! Everyone is sensitive to fragrances in different ways, so I know what you mean!

I used this product. I liked how my hair felt and looked after I brushed it.
I am very disappointed in the Ever Pure shampoo & conditioner. I got the moisture formula because I have very dry hair but my hair got oilier every time I used it to the point I couldn’t style it.
Hi Margaret
Sounds like you had a less than favorable experience with EverPure, that stinks! If you like sulfate-free shampoos, have you ever tried Pureology? It is considerably more expensive and a salon product, but I’ve had great experiences with some of their formulas. If I’m not mistaken, the green bottles in Pureology are their moisture formula.

My daughter who is a shampoo-junkie recommended the Ever Pure line to me. We both color our hair so must be a bit careful not to over dry. Actually, she now uses the Wen line of products, and is absolutely sold and in love with it! She says she’ll never use another product. Anyway, after using the Ever Pure for almost 3 months, one day I abruptly realized that my hair had gotten so thin that you can see through it! I have hair mid back length and always has been nice and thick. Never have had thinned hair in my whole life. It also became dry and “scraggly” and unmanageble. So, I have now gone back to the Neutragena line of intense moisturizer products. The dryness is better, but the thinning has not changed. Looks like I may have to cut about 6 inches off in order to get some volume. Not sure if it actually was the Ever Pure products or a combination of them and my thyroid together. Going to my endocrinologist next week for a check; hopefully just a tweak in medication will be the answer. I’m devastated!
I wish that I could say that I was a fan of any Loreal Product, but I am not. Its funny how a shampoo and conditioner claim to be sulfate free, but they are not. The first three ingredients in the shampoo are sulfates
Hi Brenda, you bring up an EXCELLENT point! I tested this product almost a year ago so I had to revisit the list of ingredients. In doing this today, I see what you mean. According to science however–it’s another story, and that’s how this one goes under the radar. The molecules and ions in Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, and Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate don’t function the way traditional surfactants do. (like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) After looking at several various ingredient resources, these were good ways to examine those in question:

I’m not a scientist or chemist so I can’t go really in-depth and get overly technical about these, but I guess it’s a matter of what someone considers to be an SLS based on having “Sodium Lauryl” something or another in the name. Thanks for making me think today, I haven’t visited sulfates in awhile!

Hi I just had to check the reviews and write and I don’t ever do this. Ok I’m a HUGE fan of the Loreal Vive pro for dry or damaged color treated hair, I have long light blond, semi wavey hair that I straighten and color with Loreal Les Blondissimes coloring and I’m very loyal even with alot of pressure from my Vegan/PETA sisters pressure to switch to a company that dosen’t test on animals and yeah it bothers me alot but I can’t find anything I like better and like others on this site was a shampoo junkie until I found Loreal, now I use nothing else for 20 years. Am I a terrible person? I feel like it sometimes. ANYWAY so I was excited and septical about the new line of sulfate free products snd very open minded but after using the shampoo and conditioner now three times I HATE it. My hair is DEFINATELY not as smooth, maybe I need to try the smooth one, I’m using the moisture one now but I’m really unhappy, my hair is very dry and lots of flyaways’s. I’m going back to the color vive for dry hair and I also use the Loreal Feria which I feel is the BEST conditioner out there. But even using the Feria on top of the new
Eva pure dosesnt help. And Feria usually helps everything. I’m so disapointed in this new product I can’t even tell you. I had such high hopes. They better not stop making the Color Vive & Feria brand is all I can say. I’m tempted to call the company and tell them what I think. I mean no one is more loyal than me. I’m depressed over this.
Amy the hair-aholic
Hey Amy,
I love hair-aholics, you’re some of my best friends! I completely encourage you (and anyone else) who ever finds any product dissatisfying to contact their customer service and offer them polite constructive criticism (not that you wouldn’t be polite, but you know how some people are SOOOO mean!). I say this not only from a consumer-stand point (I buy my share of dud products myself), but also as someone who has worked with several brands in the past. If they don’t know exactly what you liked and disliked about it, they can’t improve it. Like many industries, personal care product research & development teams are very guilty of getting trapped inside bubbles in their own little world while they’re creating–like that one guy in the 80′s who thought New Coke was going to be the next big thing, HA! Realistically, they’re not going to be able to address every customer by tweaking the formulas every single time, and we all know that. But it really does give them food for thought, and what you may dislike about it may be the complaint that tips the scale in your favor the next time they launch the next biggest thing. I never cease to be fascinated by the beauty industry, and perhaps that’s why I stay in it because it really is an emotional and subjective experience. Man, are we passionate about this or what? I’m bummed when people don’t experience preferable results in something that I did, but I’m glad that you guys come back and say why it did or didn’t work! And you’re right… Feria conditioner can fix just about anything IMHO! LOL

I recently dyed my hair with L’Oréal Excellence and it included a sample of the L’OréalEverPure shampoo and conditioner. I absolutely love them! i use the kind for color treated hair and it leaves my hair so soft and shiny; even when I straighten it, it looks gorgeous!I get tons of compliments, and I feel likely hair is so sleek and shiny it almost looks like a wig! I’ve recommended it to all of my friends with color-treated hair, they love it too. Also, I agree with your comment on the lather; I barely use any and I get a rich, luxurious lather. Love it!!
