Recap: The Makeup Show LA

by Amber on March 17, 2009

in events,fun stuff

muslaI have to just say it: I had a great experience at The Makeup Show yesterday.  Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend both days like I had anticipated due to my husband becoming extremely ill on Sunday, but I attended Monday and walked away so inspired!

I’ve always been intrigued by the actual artistry of it all, my curiosity is just driven wild when I see the end result in print and film.  It was a nice treat to see the actual tools of the trade and meet some of the artists who make it all into reality.  I also was introduced to some fab brands that I haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing before and that was so fun!  I was kinda bummed when most of the seminars were standing-room only.  But also thrilled at the same time because it means this industry is headed into territory that’s out of this universe.  There’s nothing else that can beat the feeling of becoming excited about what you do!

I met the very lovely and talented Nakeah Fuller, Founder of All About Face Academy.  In hindsight, I wish I had taken a photo with her.  She’s so vibrant and had on this killer teal-ish blue shadow that I couldn’t take my eyes off of.  I have a lot of respect for artists who want to share their gift so that others can realize their potential as well.  They were airbrushing their models and I thought she was SO cute.  I saw a lot of body airbrushing yesterday, but they had the All About Face Academy logo on their model… talk about great marketing!  I was also digging the model’s fierce haircut, but leave it to me to notice that.

I also had the pleasure of watching artists perform airbrush techniques, like at the Temptu Pro booth.  I’ve always been afraid of airbrush compressors, probably because in cosmo school the one we had was most-likely possessed.  Let’s just say nail art wasn’t my strongest skill.  When Temptu’s educator actually offered to let me airbrush the foundation of the model he was working on– on the spot, I became all fraidy-cat and another audience member did it with ease.  I couldn’t believe how incredible the results were and how they were achieved so quickly.  Foundation, eyeshadow, eyebrows, the whole nine.

For the life of me, I could not get into the Make Up For Ever booth!  I went back several times and it was so packed that I kept getting lost in the abyss of other attendees waiting to get to the counters.  I met some great people (Hi Alli!), and picked up some new products that I can’t wait to tell you about!  Now, I also wish I had more time on my hands to attend a makeup academy.  I want to flex my artistry muscle and my brain to see what I can come up with… someday.  I will attend next year, you should too!
