Review: Bare Escentuals Prime Time Foundation Primer Oil-Control

by Amber on May 19, 2009

in new products,primers,product reviews

I’m crazy about the original Bare Escentuals Prime Time Foundation Primer, but my face was willing to test out the newest in the Prime Time line, the Oil Control Foundation Primer anyway to see if it really did have oil controlling properties.  So many products say they control oil when they really don’t, my bestie and I were just having this conversation a few days ago.  Yes, even in my “real” life I am still dishing beauty!

The new Prime Time is silicone-free and everything-else-free that you love about Bare Minerals.  While the Oil Control version didn’t have quite the “slip” I like to feel in a primer, it did a phenom job at making my pores look smaller, absorbed the little outbursts of oil I get after a few hours, made my foundation wear perfectly, and was super lightweight.  It reminded me of the Korres Primer that I reviewed several weeks ago that I loved so well.

If your skin is sensitive, you like water-based products, need shine control, or are just looking for a great primer, try this one out.  I’ll be using it in the makeup arsenal!

Thanks for the review. I’ve been interested in trying this because I love the original, but also have oily skin.

Heya Katie, I really like this! I HAVE to wear primer before makeup or else I’ll be sorry and this one is a good choice, especially if you can’t handle all of the silicone primers. Even if you can– this is a nice change. Water-based is always a good thing for oily skin!

Thanks. I just bought this one because a previous brand said “oil control” and it didn’t work. I hope this one does. I love all their other products!

Hey Aleda!

Make sure you let me know how it works for you! I’m keeping my fingers crossed because I know how hard it is to find a true oil-control product!

I disagree. I have normal to dry skin and bought this primer thinking I was buying the original prime time, but I used it anyway. I think this leaves my face tight & when I apply foundation with my fingers, it literally peels off of my face in “little balls of primer.” I wish it would have worked a little bit for me because it cost $21 and comes in a TINY bottle.

Hey! I have very oily skin (I get shiny after one hour). I don’t know which primer to get, the original one or the oil contorl one, since I heard the original one is better… I want my make-up to stay on for hours and not worry about transfer and shine. Which one is for me?

Tough to say Natalie! If others are having the same issue as you and prefer the original—maybe that’s your best bet. Can you stop into a Sephora or Bare Escentuals boutique to get a sample of both perhaps?

That is not possible I’m afraid. I live in Israel and we don’t have Sephora here unfortunately. I’m planing on ordering it online from a website that imports Bare Escentuals products to Israel. The original primer has so many more positive reviews than the oil control one but I’m afraid the original wouldn’t work for my skin type or will break me out. On the other hand if the oil control one isn’t good maybe I should get the original one… I don’t know what to do.
