Must experience: Kinara Sunless Tan by St. Tropez

by Amber on May 25, 2009

in exfoliation,luxury,salon services,self-tanner

I had what I would like to refer to as a life changing experience last week.  For you dolls who have never read one of my self-tanning reviews before– let me paint you a picture.  My legs look like that cheap color of paint they use inside every apartment in the contiguous United States– “Navajo White”.  I am so pasty, and for the most part I like it that way except during this time of year.  It’s time to turn on the faux glow, and at Kinara Skin Care Clinic and Spa in West Hollywood, they did an excellent job of turning my limbs and body into a golden bronze color– making it look like I have seen the light of day at least some time during my life.  No faux tanning experience can properly be executed without a good pre-exfoliation job, and I received that treatment too.  Except it wasn’t good, it was heavenly!

The magic begins here.  You’ll be massaged with a brown sugar/sea salt blend that smells fantastic.  Even though you’ll be sans clothes, no worries.  You’ll stay strategically covered throughout your treatment.  After the incredible body glow portion of the treatment is complete, you’ll spend a few minutes front and back under the Vichy shower.  The only way I can describe this is like being able to unwind under a warm waterfall.  The pressure and the temperature is just right, and the way the jets are strategically placed it rinses away the remainder of the exfoliator and takes all of that icky skin you won’t be missing away with it.  After the body treatment, my skin felt ah-mazing!  I don’t think it’s ever been so smooth in all of my life.  Believe me, it’s so much better when someone else does it for you!

After, you’ll enter a room where there’s a state-of-the art St. Tropez tanning system and you’ll be prepped to tan.  Kim at Kinara expertly airbrushed a radiant tan from head-to-toe on my pale body.  I opted for “tan lines” and wore a paper bikini because what can I say?  I’m a modest girl.  It didn’t have an unpleasant odor and I left with a little bit of a bronze color.  Over the next several hours it developed into probably the most believable faux-tan I’ve ever had.  From start to finish, the entire body glow treatment and Kinara Tan combo lasted about 60 minutes.  I would absolutely go back and do it again.  I’m bound and determined to keep this color for as long as possible so I’m keeping my skin well hydrated.  Look for more self-tanning experience reviews over the summer where I’ll be testing the best!

A few tips when going to get a faux tan:

  • Wear dark, loose fitting clothing
  • Wear flip flops or sandals
  • Don’t shower or sweat for about 8 hours after your treatment
  • Make sure your sheets aren’t a light color if you haven’t showered before bed that night (I learned this the hard way)
  • Keep your skin hydrated with a moisturizer day and night
  • Lightly exfoliate every 3 days to make sure it fades evenly

Your beautiful new tan should last 5-7 days!  Enjoy!
