Review: Cover FX Total Coverage Cream Foundation

Can you believe I haven’t tried a foundation from Cover FX until now?  I’ve tested their Skinprep FX primer, and even though it didn’t control much in the oil department for me personally, I still found some great skincare benefits in the product that I was really impressed with.  So there is a silver lining!  It only makes sense to turn to Cover FX though when you are searching for a little foundation help, they are complexion experts after all!

Having fair skin with mostly pink undertones and a little bit of yellow can be a curse– thanks Mom.  If I go for just trying to combat one over the other it’s normally not the ideal look I was going for, it seemed like their E series of shades made the most sense in my case.  Although I don’t go for full-coverage on a daily basis, it comes in handy as a foundation option to have in the arsenal.  I never know when my couperose is going to be more noticeable from one day to the next as some days it’s more cooperative than others.  It’s also handy in giving a polished look to the skin for photographs and special events.  And some of us prefer full-coverage for everyday just because we like it like that!  I thought this review might help everyone across the board, so let’s get to it…

I was very brave to show you a rare glimpse at what my bare skin looks like, so be kind!  And no, it’s not a topical map of the Rocky Mountains in case you were wondering! *heh heh*  The first photo is of the skin on my face to the left of my nose with absolutely nothing on it first thing in the morning. (welcome to my world!)  The second is an after photo taken just a few minutes later of the same area with Cover FX Total Coverage Cream Foundation applied over a dimethicone based foundation primer to prevent the creamy formula from sinking into my enlarged pores.  Shall we?

My hopes are that we’ll agree it’s a vast improvement of the former in several aspects.  For one, skin tone that looks more even with the equalization of both pink and yellow undertones to meet them in the middle so I don’t look like Ghost Girl.  It allows a little bit of freckling to show through which my husband adores, while minimizing the appearance of couperose around my nose.  I did not use a single lick of concealer underneath and that is another welcome benefit.  The photos were zoomed in when I cropped them, but to the naked eye at regular size you can’t really see too many large pores like you can in the before photo.  All in all– I consider this to be a great success!

About an hour after applying the dense and highly pigmented cream with the enclosed sponge, it warmed up a little more and looked even better than I thought it already did.  A few more things it’s got going for it:  an SPF 30 (YAY!), it’s for all skin types, it’s non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested.  There are over 30 shades to choose from so I don’t imagine you’ll have any problems getting it just right.  Happy foundation hunting!

Hi Regina!

I have broken capillaries all around my nose area and I always have– so it’s kind of hard to cover them without concealer. I found that the Cover FX did a great job all on it’s own without looking too cakey. My face is so much more pink than the rest of my body so it’s a nice blend ;)

Yeah– the difference is unbelievable! Your skin looks amazing. Normally I am wary about total coverage cream foundation because it tends to look cakey and unnatural, but that obviously isn’t the case for you– Yay! :)

Catherine, I totally worry about the same thing with cream foundation so I was pleasantly surprised myself. If you’re not too sure about the cream from Cover FX just yet, they’ve got a few other formulations that aren’t creams worth looking into just in case it turns out not to be a good fit for you ;) The amount of coverage and shade/undertone selection they offer with their complexion products is quite impressive.

Now, I have to try it! I had read a lot about this great concealer, but had always resisted. There’s nothing like proof.

Hi! I just wanted to thank you for the review too! I have the same color skin and and I’m oily ….can’t use even a little yellow in foundations either. I’ve been having a hard time finding a foundation with coverage, the right shade and decent looking on my skin. You found a GREAT foundation. Your skin looks amazing….I put this formula and shade first on my wishlist ( gotta pay the bills first..makeup second :o )!!

Hey Valerie!

I’m so glad you found this helpful! Many people think that us girlies with fair skin are automatically just the lightest color of foundation and so we’re stuck with like 2 fair choices (3 if we’re lucky)– pink undertone or yellow undertone and nothing in between. Too pink of an undertone and you’ll turn ghastly, too yellow– it will be so gold and muddy in an hour that it doesn’t even look like you! This sat right inbetween for me which was nice. If you find that you are really oily later in the day, make sure you wear a mattifying primer underneath. You still may have to blot a little later but at least you’ll have nice coverage and color!

Hiya Charlestongirl! This was my first experience with their complexion line so I’ll definitely be checking more of their formulations out myself!
