Best of Summer: Body Scrubs

We’ve covered a lot of ground over the last few weeks in the “Best of Summer” series, but we haven’t talked body scrubs yet– don’t worry my little chicas, I didn’t forget!  I’ve been busy testing three I haven’t used before, and one that’s been previously reviewed that I can’t seem to stop using.  I tried to look a little outside of the box and found a few you might not see all over the place on store shelves so we could broaden our horizons– if you will!  Exfoliating with a body scrub 1-3 times weekly (depending on individual product directions) is really helpful in removing dead skin cells, making your skin glowy and smooth while prepping it for other products like moisturizers and self-tanning lotions.  Many of them have their own skin conditioning and moisturizing benefits and are so hydrating, you may not even feel the need for a body lotion/cream after using!  Additionally, exfoliation stimulates circulation to those less-desirable areas and wakes up cellulite and encourages the skin to snap out of it and appear firmer, prepping it for an anti-cellulite treatment product.  Need more convincing?  Check these body scrubs out for yourself:

1. Organics by Noah’s Naturals Coconut Vanilla Sugar Scrub — The second I peeled open the seal under the lid, I knew this was going to be something special!  I’m not the biggest coconut fan on the block, but I do enjoy it when it’s well balanced with other scents!  The coconut/vanilla combo is warm and sensual while the organic brown sugar in an oil base of safflower and jojoba seeds provides an excellent friction factor.  The result was luxuriously soft skin with a nice amount of natural oils left behind to keep my skin moist and glowing immediately after use.

2. LaLicious Passionfruit Lime Sugar SouffléPreviously reviewed and arsenal worthy, I could not leave this one out!  Passionfruit lime is a great summer scent and it smells good enough to eat, I am dead serious.  I’ve used this several times to prep for self-tanning experiences and I’m always very happy with it’s performance.  I’ve yet to meet a LaLicious scrub that I didn’t love!

3. VB Cosmetics Brown Sugar Strawberry Gel Scrub — I know I’m channeling my inner Joan Rivers here, but can we talk?  I’ve come across some strawberry scrubs in my life, but this one is dead-on and perfect!  The 15 oz. tub is chock-full of pure cane & brown sugars, natural strawberry seeds, aloe vera, green tea extract, and a deliciously sweet strawberry scent that you will probably flip over.  If sweet & fruity is your thing, don’t miss out on this!  The consistency of the scrub is a gel that spreads easily and isn’t as coarse as some of it’s sugar scrub sisters, but it gets the job done while smelling divine the entire time.

4. Weleda Birch Body Scrub — Unlike sugar or salt scrubs, this scrub uses small natural plant wax pearls to do the dirty work of providing skin sloughing benefits in a creamy plant oil base.  I love the difference in texture and the fact that it’s conveniently packaged in a squeezable tube versus a tub, making it easier for use in the shower.  A very invigorating rosemary & lemon scent wakes me up and refreshes my skin.  This is an excellent prep product for Weleda’s Birch Cellulite Oil that’s been said to detox and purify the areas affected by that little issue some of us would rather not admit!

I know it’s an inappropriate topic to drool all over, but I am! I love love love coconut and vanila combo so I was savoring the yummy smell in my head when I reached the Passionfruit and Lime Souffle! Sensual and the fruity, it is good to be in summer. I was looking for alternatives to the Fresh Sugar scrubs so I will be on a lookout on my own as well!

Oh Sarah! I totally get the sensual aspect of it. Even with all of the scrubbing we’re enduring, it’s a process of renewal (both literal & figurative!) which is super rewarding and very relaxing to me actually ;) I LURVE the Fresh Sugar Scrubs too, but wow they can get up there in price so it’s always nice to find something that costs less. I know it’s not Fresh, but worth a try!
