Currently Loving: Daniel Sandler Mineral Waterbase Foundation & Concealer

Fresh off of my experience with the Daniel Sandler mascaras earlier in the week, I figured now is as good of a time as ever to say how much I’ve been enjoying his Mineral Waterbase Foundation and Concealer!  I was really taken by surprise with how much I adore it.

Both the foundation and concealer are housed in one component that is compact and travel friendly as the foundation bottle is plastic.  The top of the jar flips open to reveal the concealer and then you can screw off the lid to expose the foundation which is removed with the attached little spatula/wand.  The concealer itself is medium to full coverage depending on how you apply it.  I personally build it by tapping it on with my ring finger over the troublesome spots and use a brush when I need a little under eye help!  The consistency kind of reminds me of my fave Vincent Longo Creme Concealer, yet not exactly the same.  It’s very similar in the aspects of it’s creamy smooth texture, buildable coverage, and not feeling cakey or waxy.  So it’s got it goin’ on!  For my fair skin, I thought the tone of the concealer did a great job for both concealing darkness and also minimizing redness.

The foundation is very different than what I’m used to, but a welcome change!  Upon first impression, when I looked inside of the jar I was worried the coverage would be too much because it’s a very dense creamy texture on it’s way to looking whipped in my opinion.  I took the spatula and applied it on the back of my hand and applied it with a foundation brush on one side of my face.  With the other side, I applied it with my fingers in short downward strokes in order to see any coverage changes.  With the foundation brush, it seemed a little more on the sheer side and almost looked like a tinted moisturizer on my skin with little light-deflecting particles.  It was glowy and pretty, but not very much coverage.  On the opposite side, there was a little more coverage but looked more like it was in between a tinted moisturizer and a medium coverage liquid foundation.  I thought both sides were pretty and it was evident that this has the potential of being versatile.  Love that!

If I could change one thing– it would be the range of shades.  This is only available in 3 shades: Fair, Medium, and Dark.  For me personally, even the Fair option is a little too dark for the pasty girlies like me and I couldn’t wear this daily if I wanted to unless I have a little self-tanner on my face which has been the case lately.  So it works!  Otherwise, it won’t.  I love the incandescence to it, it’s not a chunky glittery effect or anything but it is a nice little sheen.  If you tend to get pretty oily and prefer a matte look 24/7 this may not be the best choice for you.  I like matte myself, but I do like switching it up from time to time.  All in all, I do love this.  It’s a great light and summery alternative to a full coverage foundation when you just want light coverage and an angelic glow!

This is a great review. Very informative! I usually prefer a matte look too, but this really sounds like an outstanding foundation. The fact that it is travel friendly is a plus, too! There is nothing worse than carrying an overflowing makeup bag on vacation.

Thanks Caroline!

I was really surprised with how much I liked it even though the color was a little off for me. Luckily it’s self-tan time so it blends pretty nicely otherwise! Clever packaging too!
