Hi HairHelper :)

Thanks for chiming in, I like most Redken products too by the way! One of the things I really liked about HerCut was it's packaging actually, the simplicity of it makes it easy to determine what the best products would be for your needs out of the line instead of being overwhelmed with so many choices. If it didn't work for you either-- I realize that the packaging concept or the product didn't do you any good! ;) My hopes are that all brands will make themselves in touch with us here in the blogosphere and hear our cries! That way, they can continue to improve their product formulas and innovate new ideas to make most beauty product connoisseurs like us happy :)

Hi ladies!

I'm with BeautyBuyer on this one. A product has to be really top notch to stand out on today's beauty shelves. This one... not so much. I like to consider myself pretty in the know when it comes to beauty, like you Amber! This product falls short on many levels. The packaging makes it look like a kitschy novelty item for a certain age group, and the smell is heavily perfumed and intense. This Catalyst does not seem to do anything that any other styling product out there already does in spades.

Personally, Redken never lets me down.

Have a beauty-full day!

Hey BeautyBuyer!

It's been awhile since I've used any Bumble products, I can't recall if it was from the Thickening line though! Thanks so much for the suggestions :) I'm so glad there are so many experienced gals here to share their diverse experiences!

Hey Amber!

Yeah, the results were pretty ordinary, and in these economic times if I'm going to reach into my wallet and fork over money for a hair product it had better be stellar. I know someone else who tried out the Pixie Catalyst on her short hairstyle and it was a mess! Well, not so much a mess but it did absolutely nothing. Her hair looked dull and dry. Big no no for a hair product line.

On a more upbeat note, there are plenty of amazing options already on the market that have tried and true results! For "long layers" I would recommend trying Bumble or Aveda products. You mentioned you have fine hair... have you tried out Bumble's thickening line? It works miracles I tell you! Also, to educate yourself as a consumer you should check out Loreal's website for it's great section on science.

Hope this helps everybody out!

Hey BeautyBuyer!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I always appreciate hearing another take on products, which is just one of the reasons I'm pretty much obsessed with reading product reviews myself ;) I'm not sure how the Catalyst differs for the Long Layers and The Bob-- but I'm very curious now. At the time of this review I had a shorter straight bob and the Catalyst did a great job at making it lay correctly, I have such fine hair that gets all wispy and fly-away-ish and is difficult to control without weighing it down with product. The Bob was an easier fix for me! Bummer that you didn't have a desired result with the Long Layers, is there anything you would recommend for someone with long layers who might be reading this?

No thank you. C'mon ladies! Honestly. I tried some of this too and was far from being blown away. As a serious beauty consumer I was expecting something groundbreaking here and I think it fell short. The shampoo and conditioner smelled so strongly it was almost overwhelming. While I like the fragrance, it was simply overpowering, and, more importantly, was a completely unremarkable product to boot. I tried the Long Layers product out and was equally as underwhelmed. Sure it made my hair smooth, lots of products can do that. Did it actually "help" my haircut? No. My hair looked shiny so I guess that's a plus. Overall I see nothing revolutionary about this line. Unless they change the entire thing and start all over again.

Hey Recessionista! *kisses*

I really liked The Catalyst, it's like the perfect measured amount of each product that comes out at once and my hair lays so much nicer... but let's see if I'll need to switch because I'm getting a haircut tomorrow! I might not have a bob anymore after... we'll see ;)

What a super neat concept! I think I need to try the Long Layers products ASAP. I can use any help I can get for my layers to get more movement and bounce. Thanks for this--I never would have known about this line without you! xo
