Urban Decay HeatMy love for all things Urban Decay started many moons ago when I first got my hands on a pan of Midnight Cowboy eyeshadow.  I was thinking I had been missing out on some secret club or something– and I must have gone through 2 of those little token-looking compacts before I decided to give it a rest!  It was just about then that Urban Decay released the first shades of Deluxe Eyeshadow, and I immediately purchased Fishnet (an iridescent purple), and Peace (a shimmering turquoise).  The pigments and colors were so vibrant that I couldn’t wear them daily but I sure had fun with them and experimented with how I could incorporate them into work-friendly looks.  I was much younger then, and these days I’m a little bit more on the conservative side when it comes to eyeshadow.  But that didn’t stop me from experimenting with some of the new Deluxe Eyeshadow shades!

Here we’ve got Ruthless (pale sandy taupe shimmer), Frigid (deep purple w/ blue sheen), and Freakshow (deep purple w/ red sheen).

Who says the younger gals have all the eyeshadow fun?

I patted Frigid (the purple-blue) on my entire lid, and applied Ruthless (taupe shimmer) on top of Frigid on the inner 2/3rds of my lid.  Then, I blended Freakshow (deep purple) in the outer crease and also smudged it as liner (dry) on top & bottom lash lines.  I went back and put a little Ruthless over the crease and on my brow bone.  And wah-lah!  Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow FUN!

In my 30′s, I have just as much fun with these vibrant colors as I did back then, the pigments in the Deluxe shadows are richer than their shadows in the subway token compacts.  The color saturation is yummy and the staying power is there.  When patting on the lid, I do get a tad bit of fallout– but that kinda goes with the territory since the colors are more vibrant than usual and the fallout is definitely more noticeable.  Whenever I’m working with darker shadows, I do my eyes first– then foundation so that I don’t have a huge catastrophe on my hands.  Each color has an adorable little oval-shaped compact with a different illustration.  Urban Decay ALWAYS has the cutest cutting-edge packaging!  I can’t wait to see what Winter/holiday collections are on the way!

How do you incorporate bold eyeshadow shades into your eye looks?

I LOVE frigid!! I already had a deep purple MUFE shadow so I wear it with frigid and it looks really great. Thank you Urban Decay for your friends and family sale!!! I cleaned up! :)

Those look great on you. I usually stay away from UD because of the shimmer factor, but these don’t seem to have much of that. I sure do like that combo of Frigid and Freakshow.
Thanks for showing that us 30+ lovelies can rock it, too! :)

Thanks gals! It usually takes me a little bit more confidence than the average day to feel sassy enough to rock shades like these– but for some reason, Urban just brings it out in me and I want to go out of my way to wear them! I’m going ga-ga for purples and greens lately, I’m on the hunt for a pretty peacock green next!

Sorry Recessionista! I didn’t do it on purpose! I know you can wear purple… ;) Even if it’s JUST a little!

So pretty! I’ve been looking for purple-but-not-too-purple colors, and these are perfect!

Thanks Trude! Urban Decay has a great selection of purple shades that are workable– even if some look a little wild, they’re easy to manipulate. ;)
