CVS 5 Minute Whitening GelIt’s inevitable that occasionally I’ll stumble across a beauty product that’s not for me, despite how much love I have for just about all of them.  This my dolls, was one of them– the CVS Pharmacy 5 Minute Whitening Gel Tooth Whitening System.  This was a quickie impulse purchase because of the price and may or may not have been sparked by a recent random comment from my husband that he can tell I’ve been drinking a lot of coffee lately!  It was only $5.99– and that made it extremely attractive sitting on the shelf next to smile whitening kits over $20.  Plus, it seemed easy– 5 minutes rocks!  Show me something that works or a dinner I can cook in 5 minutes and I’m all over it, so I got suckered in by that!

Ahh, but for me– it was not an easy 5 minutes to suffer through.  The gel is really thick and gooey, and tastes Gross with a capital G.  You apply the gel to the  “Duplex Mouth Tray” and pop it in for 5 minutes, then rinse.  I didn’t find any specific time frame on exactly how many days you are supposed to impose this yuck on yourself other than “Repeat until you achieve your desired shade of white”.  After 3 nights, I gave up.  And believe me– I’m no quitter!  I’ll suffer a little for beauty and for whiter teeth.  But night after night after night until who knows when?  Nope.  This funky tasting gunk won’t be taking up any of my precious beauty loot real estate any longer.  If it had a better taste– perhaps mint, I would have toughed it out.  But I’ve since moved on to greener pastures and started using the Crest Advanced Seal system a few days ago, I can tell you my experience is about 100 times more better already!  That review will be coming up in a few weeks and will be taking place of the favorable review I wish I could have given this one!

I bought this whitening gel last night and have used it a few times so far. I’ve seen a signifigant change in my tooth shade. Also, when I put the tray in, I was surprised that the gel was tasteless. When you take out the tray, you just lightly brush your teeth without toothpaste and all of the gel comes off. Maybe you were using too much or the whitening gel? You really only need a little. Anyways, I’m sorry that you didn’t like this product but I gusss it just depends on the consumer. Thanks! Have a great day!

A.M. is right… i bought the whitening kit about a week ago, and once i bought it i brushed my teeth and took a little “before” picture and the difffernece between today and then is drastic. im a competitve cheerleader for a gym in mckinney texas, and me and a probaby about 15-20 other people use it and EVERYONE is noticing results, some use the Walgreens brand, but everyone is pleased with it, no one has complained avout a bad taste, or the thickness of the gel, but i am sorry that you are not pleased with your results…

    Hi C. Webb,

Thanks so much for sharing your results and experience! Maybe I’m just the kinda gal that needs to stick with strips? The gel just didn’t cut it for me, but I’m glad it worked for you! I wish it would have worked for me because it would have saved me serious cash.

I hate it didn’t work for you Amber. I love this stuff! For the price it can’t be beat and I don’t think the gel even has a taste. Maybe you got an expired tube? Not all products are going to work for everyone, but for six dollars – it’s worth trying if you’re looking for an inexpensive product.

  • Amber

    Hey Michele!

Thanks for sharing your success story too! You know, it’s very possible that I purchased an old tube–I guess I hadn’t thought of that especially since so many of you are telling me it’s really a worthwhile product! I’m looking into a few new whitening products right now for upcoming reviews, but perhaps someday I should revisit this product ;) I am actually super happy that I’m wrong about it and that it’s worked for everyone!

Hey! I just started using this product 3 or 4 days ago. I use it twice a day like it tells me to and leave it on for the 5 minutes it says… The different is already visible!! My teeth were never yellow, just needed a little lightening. I’m not sure why it didn’t say on your box, but mine said to not exceed 14 days at a time.

I’m so happy with this product. I got the “BOGO”– 1/2 off… for a total of $9 for two kits, I was psyched!! I do taste it a little bit once I take the tray out, but other than that, it’s not bad at all. (:

Maybe you can give it a go again!

I bought it for the same reason, super cheap. However, I didn’t mind the taste; I don’t think it really has any distinctive taste actually. It does seem to work well too, with minimal tooth sensitivity. Altho I have wondered on a few occasions how toxic this stuff is or how bad it is for my teeth. I certainly try not to swallow any of it.
