A page right out of Leslie Blodgett’s Perfume Diaries, Bare Skin

by Amber on October 30, 2009

in contests / giveaways,fragrance,new products,product reviews

Bare SkinI’m sure you’ve noticed that fragrance is HUGE lately.  It seems like several new scents are hitting shelves right now just in time to be placed on holiday wish lists, so it’s brilliant marketing on the behalf of the brands.  I recently spoke of the new scent, Bare Skin from the Queen of bareMinerals and all-around beauty rockstar at Bare Escentuals– Leslie Blodgett.  I’ve truly been anticipating getting my hands on the juice so I could share my experience, it’s here!

Upon first impression, I get a soft whiff of freesia closely followed by a subtle peppery note that gives just a little kick.  I can’t say that I’ve owned a perfume with black pepper in recent memory, it was a nice surprise.  After a few minutes, it’s still soft and slightly spicy.  It’s really clean smelling, my Mom and I both said “Mmmm!” at the same time when we put it on for the first time.  As you get to the “heart” of the perfume, I can pick up the plumeria and orchid vanilla.  To my nose, none of these are overdone or overpowering.  Sometimes I worry when I see tropical flowers as the main notes in a perfume!  I’m always afraid that I’m going to wind up smelling like that cheesy Hawaiian perfume I bought in the hotel gift shop in Waikiki as a teenager, but Bare Skin’s floral mix is part elegant, and part relaxed.  It’s a fragrance that can be worn whether I’m in jeans and a tee, or if I’m wearing a dress.  The base notes are sandalwood, musk, and patchouli, but it’s so soft, clean, and feminine that it does not bother me one bit.  You know how I feel about patchouli– it’s not my fave!  But I think I’m breaking out of my shell in my older age because a lot of the new fragrances I’ve reviewed lately have had patchouli at the bottom.  I never would have known if I wouldn’t have researched them, it’s a perfect example of how you can’t judge a book by it’s cover!

“When I have an experience, I like to have a scent behind it. Bare Skin, which is what Mexico reminds me of, is the way you feel when the sun is beating down on you during the day, but then you go out at night and you’re still sizzling from the warmth of the day which mingles with the night air and the music.”  –Leslie Blodgett, CEO, Bare Escentuals

Bare Skin is a Sephora exclusive and is available in an eau de parfum, a perfume solid compact, and in a perfumed body cream.  If you’re in a Sephora, take a whiff or grab a sample!  I noticed it’s currently one of the samples you can select with your purchase on sephora.com, so you can try it that way too.  But I’ve got a tiny surprise for five readers, today only!  If you leave a comment here at the end of this post today telling me your favorite vacation location, you’ll have a chance to win a .05 fl. oz. sample vial of Bare Skin, a Beauty Junkies Unite tote bag, and compact mirror.  At the end of the day, I’ll close the comments and select five readers at random and contact them via email for their U.S. shipping information.  Make sure you put your correct email address in the box!  Please enter only once today and keep your eyes peeled on your inbox, good luck!

Update:  This giveaway has ended and comments are now closed.  Check your inbox soon for your winning notification email, they’ll be on their way over the weekend!  Thanks for your participation!   xoxo

An editorial sample was provided by the company and was evaluated to determine my opinion of the product in this post.  Please see the Disclosures page for further information regarding my policies for using press samples.
