Review & swatches: OPI Holiday Wishes Collection 2009

by Amber on November 6, 2009

in nail care,nail polish,new products,product reviews

OPI Holiday Wishes 2009In a season full of indulgences, wishes, and sweets, OPI brings us the Holiday Wishes Collection for Winter 2009.  12 new cold-weather hues to bring a little holiday cheer are here!  The collection is divided into two distinct color stories: six reds ranging from bright to burgundy, and six dark and neutral tones that include some surprises– like a deep blue-violet, and a bronze which you’ll see in just a second.  They’re GORGEOUS!

Here’s the shade breakdown from OPI:

Comet Loves Cupid — And you’ll love this classic red.
Dear Santa — Please bring me this glittering holiday red!
Glove You So Much! — Almost as much as this rich burgundy!
Smitten with Mittens — A burgundy glitter to warm your fingertips.
Meet & Jingle — A rich crimson that loves to mingle.
Crimson Carol — You’ll want to sing about this rosy-red shimmer.
Ginger Bells! — A yummy shade of gingerbread.
Shim-merry Chic — A gorgeous glimmer of bronzed glow.
All A-Bordeaux the Sled! — Dash in for this luscious shade of wine.
Holiday Glow — Charcoal grey glowing with a touch of silver.
Sapphire in the Snow — A deep, jewel-toned violet-blue.
Merry Midnight – Blue-violet with a starry, multi-hued shimmer.

I have swatches of 8 of the new shades, let’s take a peek at my faves first– Merry Midnight, and Shim-merry Chic:

Merry Midnight

Shim-Merry Chic

I gasped when I saw how spectacular these two were.  Not only are the base colors breathtaking, but the addition of glitter and multi-colored flakes makes them superb!  The deep blue-violet Merry Midnight is the equivalent of a New Year’s Eve party on your nails, and the luxe bronze Shim-merry Chic will be a fun color to wear long after the holiday festivities are over.  Not to mention, a great addition to your collection for nail art.  These two are the brightest stars out of the 12 for me!

For reds, both Comet Loves Cupid and Meet & Jingle remind me of why I love red nail polishes so much.  They are HOTNESS!

See what I mean?  One cannot help but get in the holiday spirit after seeing those beautiful reds!  Another fun one is Holiday Glow, I love this one because it can’t make up it’s mind if it wants to be a dark charcoal grey or a dark violet with silver micro-glitter.

Holiday Glow

Next up, Ginger Bells!  This one reminded me of butterscotch pudding, and then I went digging around for left-over Halloween candy because I got a sweet tooth!

Ginger Bells!

And finally, these dark burgundy shades make Holiday Wishes complete with All A-Bordeaux the Sled!, and Glove You So Much!

Whatcha’ think?  Are you wishing for any of these new nail polishes from the Holiday Wishes collection?  I’m not sure if I’ll be wearing Merry Midnight or Shim-merry Chic first… it’s a hard decision, help me out!

OMG OMG OMG, so THAT’S what Merry Midnight looks like up close! Now I’m really freaking out because that’s one of the shades that Dell is going to use for their OPI laptops!! How freaking gorgeous is that going to be? The other two shades they said they’ll be using are Dear Santa and Smitten with Mittens. Please tell me you’ll be reviewing and swatching those soon? :)

Hey R!

OMG is right, the sad thing is– it looks WAY better in person and it was so hard to capture in a photo because of the light and how reflective it is! I LOOOOOVE it and if there were any way I could have my laptop look like that, I probably would! As soon as I get my paws on the remaining 4, I’ll be sure to swatch em’ ;)

I really love the Merry Midnight, which is weird because I tend to abhor shimmers and sparkles in polish. But, OPI seems to have nailed it (er, no pun intended) with this shade. I also love Ginger Bells! I think it’s a great neutral for both light and dark shades of skin.

Hmm. I am not crazy about these? But I think I need to see them IRL. I don’t like glitter in my polish, so that rules out a bunch of these for me. Maybe Comet Loves Cupid, but I haven’t been doing reds lately–I typically do dark shads on my nails, so I could try All-A-Bordeaux. (God, I love their names!!) :)

Hey V! I’m usually not a glitter person for everyday wear myself, but there was just something about the opalescence in those flakes that put me in a daze! I think I could see you in Comet Loves Cupid ;)
