Back in October, I gave everyone a sneak peek at the latest from CoverGirl to be released in January 2010. Smoky ShadowBlast is an all-in-one shadow stick to help you obtain a smoky eye in whatever hue you fancy. The smoky eye is often a difficult task to achieve on your own, I try to leave it to a makeup artist if I want to wear it myself! Whenever I attempt it by my own hand, it’s usually not too pretty!
Four of these shades are already available on Drugstore.com, with the remaining two available in January. I had a chance to try “Bronze Fire“, here’s what I thought!

Step 1 – Use the rounded end shadow on lid to brow bone. You can also put a little along the lower lash line
Step 2 – Use the tapered end along the upper lash line as liner, and then apply it in the crease

I love how smooth these glide on the eye without any tugging or skipping. It’s also so easy to use in the way that just a little (and I mean a little) blending with a fingertip will do! No brushes or multiple pans of eyeshadow to deal with and blend, it’s a breeze! I haven’t seen any of the other colors in-person yet, but I’m also dying to check out the “Purple Plume” shade.
You can apply these as intensely as you want color wise–but since these are creams, I strongly recommend the use of an eyeshadow primer before application or you’ll risk some creasing. The only other words of caution I would issue with these is that since they are in a twist-up stick, try not to press too hard or they could break. They are soft enough that it’s not necessary to use a lot of pressure and I think they are pigmented enough not to have to keep retracing your steps. If you do, I could see that it may buckle under the pressure. As the stick gets shorter, of course there will be less of a risk of that. Just try not to wind it all the way up and press too hard and all will be well!

Very pretty – do you think you can layer them? Are they pigmented enough to work with other shadows? I’m so intrigued by the concept, but wonder how the actual application would go.
Hey Meredith
I think they might be a good base under a powder shadow and they’re really smooth to the touch. I’m a fan of step 1, it has this cooling effect on my lids…but I’m weird like that!

Oh, I love how these colors bring out the gold in your eyes! I’m excited to try these but I can’t decide which shades to try first. Once again, thanks for the scoop, A! xo
Niiiice. I love the smokey eye look, but picking shadows can be a pain when you’re in a rush. These are so cool!
