Review: Christopher Drummond Beauty Eyeshadow

by Amber on December 24, 2009

Professional makeup artist Christopher Drummond created an all-natural, vegan, and organic-based makeup line that launched in 2007.  I recently tried out a few products from the line and of particular note, I found the eyeshadow formulation is lacking any bismuth oxychloride–an ingredient in some mineral eyeshadows that can cause itching or irritation.  While for me personally I can only think of one brand that I had that specific problem with, I know many women who can’t use any mineral makeup that containing bismuth because it makes them itch.  That would be pretty undesirable and pretty limiting to say the least!  It’s nice to have a bismuth-free option out there.

I experimented with three of the eyeshadow colors: Amethyst, Mystique, and Feline.

These were very easy to blend and had a nice velvety texture.  While the pigments are long-lasting, I do recommend the use of an eyeshadow primer just to take it the extra mile for length of wear and color payoff.  Mystique, Amethyst, and Feline are all new colors from the Fall/Winter line, with Feline being the first matte shade from Christopher Drummond.  I found them to really come “alive” when used with a wet brush with Amethyst taking the cake–it’s so pretty!  It’s a great non-purple purple for anyone who wants to wear the more plum/purple shades but are either afraid to, or if a true purple just isn’t a complementary color for their skin tone.  I know this review focuses more on the eyeshadows, but I really have to speak about the lip gloss in Luscious for a sec!  It’s SUPER buttery feeling, so smooth and creamy.  There is not even the slightest hint of tacky or gummy feel to it, it’s almost more of a liquid lipstick which I really like.  The pigment payoff in the gloss I tried was phenomenal!  If you need to avoid bismuth, prefer natural cosmetics, or just want to try no-fuss colors that don’t take a makeup class to learn how to apply–I would check these out!  I also highly recommend the Christopher Drummond Beauty Lip Gloss.

Please note: The lip gloss formulation is not vegan as it contains beeswax.
