Whoa, I can’t believe it–but here’s my first review of the new decade!

The first review of 2010 goes to…Maybelline Lash Stiletto Voluptuous Mascara. The January 2010 release is an updated take on the original Lash Stiletto Mascara (released in 2009) which was reviewed here. One of my dearest pals, The Recessionista alerted me that Lash Stiletto Voluptuous is a possible dupe of Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara–I may not be able to offer a personal side-by-side comparison, but I can see from photos that the S-shaped brushes are similar:

I am pretty under the weather right now, so please forgive my not-so-perky looking eye! Here’s the before & after of me wearing Lash Stiletto Voluptuous:

I like that this formula does add a little thickness to the lash in comparison to the original Lash Stiletto formula–it definitely adds length, and defines! I tried out Very Black, and I think it was a pretty glossy black that didn’t flake. I actually fell asleep wearing it and woke up with intact lashes, my husband was probably wondering what I was doing in bed with perfect lashes and a fever! Lash Stiletto Voluptuous is available in a washable formula in Very Black and Brownish Black, and one waterproof formula in Very Black. With the slightest bit of moisture, the regular formula will run pretty easily since it’s a washable formula and I would keep that in mind! As long as your eyes don’t tear up easily, the regular formula should work out well and is a good choice if you can’t stand heavy-duty eye makeup removers just to take off your mascara–I found that Lash Stiletto Voluptuous was easily removed with a makeup wipe followed up with a little water. This is a brand spankin’ new release from Maybelline and should be widely available soon! The only place I’ve spotted it so far though is at my local Target store on the display with all of the newest items in the EyeStudio line. If you have any experience with this mascara and/or Lancome Hypnose Drama–please share your thoughts!

Amber! Love this review! Thank you so much (I just linked to it, btw). I had been dying to know what this was like (haven’t had much luck w/ the regular Stiletto) and after seeing your pics I think I need to see for myself what it can do for my sad, thin lashes. I am so intrigued by that brush. Did you find that it helped fan out your lashes more than a traditional, straight brush would? Thanks and I hope you’re feeling better, sweets!
Hi R!
Thanks sweets! In my bronchitis-induced haze, I wasn’t trying to apply it too perfectly, I honestly just swiped it on a few times so I would say it fans out pretty well all things considered! I liked the regular Stiletto as well, I had luck with it–but I think *fingers crossed* you’ll like this one!

Ooh, thanks for the review! Will definitely check it out immediately.
Came over from Recessionista’s blog. Great review- especially under feverish conditions!- and I have to say you have gorgeous lashes! I recently bought L’Oreal’s Panoramic Curl and was intrigued to see that its brush is a lot like this one. VERY similar in shape- not a curved brush, not quite an S-brush. Seems to give the volume of a curved brush with the definition of a straight one, at least for me. (I often forget how much curved brushes irritate me, and buy one, and get frustrated all over again by how clumpy and uneven they are.) I’ll probably check out the Stiletto Volume one next, since Stiletto worked for me.
Hi beautifulmonday!
Thanks for coming over, I’m glad to have you here! Let me know if you check it out, I always want to hear all the sides to the story!

Oh dear lord….Must…..have….
I haven’t tried out this stuff, but I’ve got to say, Hypnose Drama is my go-to mascara for when I’m going out at night. One of my best friends actually asked if I were wearing false eyelashes the first time I wore it around her. It’d be great, though, if the Maybelline mascara were comparable — I’d save a lot of money!
I am so happy to hear that this mascara really works.I wanted to try it so bad. There are so many new cosmetics coming out by Maybelline and Covergirl.I would love to see some reviews on them. Thanks for the review!
Hi Cheryl!
I should have some reviews of several more of the new Maybelline products in the next few weeks, so make sure to check back! Just in case you haven’t seen them yet, here are reviews of the new Maybelline Shine Sensational Glosses and the new EyeStudio Eye Quads:

I might be reviewing the new Sensitive Skin formula of the Covergirl Clean Makeup foundation, stay tuned!
Hi L!
That is awesome to know! In all fairness, I just read this review this morning from Product Girl, and it looks like she still prefers Hypnose after trying Lash Stiletto Voluptuous:

We both experienced it a little differently– it flaked for her, but I didn’t have that at all! So definitely catch her side too! I still haven’t tried Hypnose, I can’t justify buying any more mascara right now but it’s on my list.

I appreciate this review and the realistic photos. However the commercial that is running here with the model with obvious thick fake eyelashes (you can even see her natural lashes between the fakes in the close up) ticks me off. They can show the TRUTH and still sell their products.
Get a clue, Mabelline et al, if you want to sell your product to us average looking girls, give us some truthful results to expect. Otherwise, we won’t buy it anymore than we buy your fake commercials.
I agree with Robin. They should show us what their product to the model’s natural lashes, not what they look like with a little bit of mascara and a strip of fake lashes.
i have tried it and it is AMAZING! it literally works (:
Length? Ooooh yeah. Definitely adds length. Out of all drugstore brands I’ve tried, this had added the most length. But it clumps really easily, makes my lashes look spikey instead of plumping them up and adding the promised volume, and the shape of the brush makes the product get in my eye really easily. Like, but not love.
Omg, this mascara is AMAZING. I’ve used many different mascaras and this one is by far the best! People ask me if i’m wearing fake eyelashes because it makes them SO long. The only thing that maybe could be better is that it clumps if you put too much on, but i love it. Definitley buy it now!!!
This mascara is the worst I’ve ever tried. It smelled terrible, and did nothing for my lashes. What a waste of money. This mascara does not even compare to hypnose drama since that is my favourite.
