Instant Age Rewind FoundationThe chances are, you’ve been perusing the beauty aisles lately and you’ve spotted this space-age looking foundation from Maybelline, Instant Age Rewind The Eraser Treatment Makeup.  And if you haven’t yet, here ya go!  I’m going to take you on a little guided tour and share my experiences with it, sound good?

Let’s start with the applicator, it’s quite unique–I think we’d all agree!  It’s a plush microfiber sponge that has millions of tiny antimicrobial microfibers to apply the product.  I didn’t want to like this idea at first, but after twisting the collar at the neck of the bottle clockwise, I got kinda hooked!  It took about 10 clicks to get it started, but after the initial flow begins, you might not want to get too click happy with it as a pretty decent amount comes out with a single click.

The Eraser

The applicator is even softer than it looks, and I was really surprised with how easily it laid the foundation down on my skin!  I did not find the need to blend any further with my fingers, a foundation brush, or a sponge.  When I had started out, I feared the applicator was just a gimmick and that I’d end up doing twice the work—I stand corrected!  I didn’t have any uneven application problems, but I could see where you might if you accidentally try to apply with too much on the tip.  Keeping that in mind, I was able to apply and blend very easily without incident.

In regards to the formula, I give it major kudos for the fact alone that it has an SPF 18, but Instant Age Rewind Foundation also contains Goji berry, a powerful antioxidant/super fruit known for it’s abilities to defend the skin against environmental aggressors to help prevent premature aging.  I honestly couldn’t tell you if the concentration of Goji berry in here is enough to provide an anti-aging benefit since it’s definitely a cumulative result, and obviously I haven’t been using it long enough to speak to that result specifically.  However, I will say that it doesn’t hurt!  If a foundation is offering up antioxidants, then I’m all for it.  The texture of this liquid gives a decent amount of buildable coverage and makes my skin look pretty fresh, soft, and happy.

I could see where more combination/oily skin types may not be too crazy about this as it’s pretty moist.  If you’re someone with enlarged pores who doesn’t normally wear a primer with foundation, I strongly recommend using one with The Eraser. (Maybelline has a new one called Instant Age Rewind Primer Skin Transformer)  In my case, I experienced that it settled in my pores without primer, but with primer–it seemed to softly diffuse the depth of them which is always a welcome optical illusion!  It made my skin look bright and healthy, diffused the look of my pores, offered medium coverage, and toned down quite a bit of redness in my skin while making it feel extremely soft to the touch.  In being realistic about my expectations of just how much age a foundation can actually “rewind”, I actually like this product.

Have you tried this foundation yet?  What was your experience?

I spotted this foundation at Target several weeks ago and put off buying it since I have a few others in rotation. But my skin is so dry and haggard looking right now from the winter air that I felt like I needed something new to help. For reference, I am nearly 30 but have larger pores, some sun damage/wrinkles and dry skin around the cheeks and forehead area.

I used a silicone-based primer under this foundation and was really pleased! It has only medium coverage, which probably helps with the age-defying aspect (so it’s not too cakey in wrinkles or pores) and I love the applicator. After I apply it all over my face I use my fingers to blend it into areas like my jawline and around my nose. It stays a bit moist on the skin like a just-applied moisturizer but that soaks in after about a minute. Regardless, it leaves my skin looking dewy, smoother and more even in tone – exactly what I hoped for! (Because of this, I don’t see this working well for people with oilier skin.)

Hi kb :) Thanks for sharing your experience, it sounds like ours was very similar! I’m definitely in agreement with everything you said.

Jennifer B., if you end up trying this one, be sure to come back and share your thoughts–I love hearing everyone’s opinions!

I bought Instant Age Rewind Eraser a couple of days ago and while it’s too soon to report on the “treatment” claims, I can say it instanly makes my skin look fresher and younger. (i have slight combo skin/44 year old). I do have to do a slight blending with my fingers, but the creamy natural matched my current skin tone so well, its very minimal. Its a lil moist at first application, but not a greasy moist, more like hydrating/dewey, and absorbs well without much else. Im pretty low-maint, so a lil brush of powder after it dries a bit and im good to go..for quite a while. Great at covering redness and looks very natural.

Hi Sheri,

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I’m glad you liked it too :)

I loved it! It really seems to erase as you are applying it -at least for minor flaws such as redness & uneven skin tone. I also noticed how moist it was. I do wish that it had more staying power -it is so moist and light that it seems to come off pretty easy. I’m guessing though that if they made it stay on longer, it would lose the dewy look and ability to not look cakey.

I still think it is my new favorite though! I love not having to use my fingers or find a sponge(unless I overdo it).

Recently, I have tried that new roll on makeup (Loreal true match) and it left roller marks -not good! I didn’t really have great faith that this applicator would be any different, but it actually surpassed my expectations! After I tried the roll on makeup, I then tried the Revlon photo ready makeup. Every review that I had read said that it made the skin look dry & flaky. I thought since my skin is not dry that I would try it anyway. Shouldn’t have -used it once and won’t touch it again! Anyway, all that to say that I FINALLY found something that I would buy again!

I just bought it an really loved it. However if you are a bit older like I am, there are some challenges. It took me a while to see that the instructions are under the label which you have to peel off. (I am happy that there is not a lot of wasted packaging.) then I had to twist and turn to read it because the instructions are in a silvery type. I saw that it said twist toward arrows. Since my eyesight is not exactly sharp it took me a minute to locate the arrows. I am happy to report that it was all worth it. As a person who has a whole drawer full of makeup, I noticed the difference right away on the application. I saw on the website today that the applicator should be wiped and to NOT wet it. Also alert Walgreens has it on sale for 40% off through 3-6-10. Has anyone found coupons for it?

Hi PE!

I’ve looked around for coupons for the foundation and can’t find any except for this great one for $2 off any Maybelline EyeStudio product:

Thanks so much for letting us know it’s 40% off too! Great tip :)

Hi,
I just started using Instant Age Rewind Eraser, and am glad to have found this site. I wanted to see how others felt about this new, innovative makeup. While I like the look, I’m a bit up in the air on the feel. Perhaps I’m using too much, although I know you’re supposed to use this sparingly. I bought the primer as the pores around my nose/on myu nose are rather large. I click the ‘wand’ until I can see very little product on the microfiber tip. This equates to one or two clicks, now that I’ve used it already. Do you think the ‘slimy’ (sorry for the word, but it’s all I can think of), feeling I have on my skin is due to too much makeup? Again, it boils down to this: I love the look, not the feel. Your tips/suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

I liked the applicator on this stuff a l.o.t. but I wish it was more long-wearing. Overall, I think it’s a great foundation, especially for on-the-go. I really like that the applicator is bacteria-resistant!! I used it sans primer either and I didn’t feel like I needed one. :)

Is anyone using lose powder after applying this foundation?

Hi Lela,

The other day I used some bareMinerals Mineral Veil over it, it looked nice I thought :)

I was excited to try this foundation because the applicator looked so unique! A bit hesitant to use a moisturizing formula because I have super oily skin, I decided to try this on a Sunday when I had nowhere important to go. Unfortunately, my fears were correct – the Age Rewind Eraser functions horribly on oily skin. I did love the way the applicator works though – it really does erase imperfections as you apply it.

I applied the foundation to half of my face with primer and half without, to see if that made any difference. (The primer I used was Mattify! Loose Powder by Mattify Cosmetics – this is a super oil-absorbing powder that can be used both under and over foundation). The half without primer wore off and felt incredibly greasy and sticky after only 2 hours. It literally disappeared from my skin! The half with primer lasted a bit longer – around 3-4 hours before becoming intolerably sticky. I layered more of my Mattify! Loose Powder over the top, and it left me with a matte finish for around 2 hours before becoming sticky again. I’m just glad that I didn’t wear this foundation for a 10 hour work day – because after 4 hours, it barely looked like I was wearing any foundation at all. All of my freckles were showing, and my skin tone looked really uneven and shiny. This just isn’t the right makeup for oily skin. Maybe Maybelline will come up with a similar formula with this same applicator, but designed for oily skin! **hopeful look**

I cant get the makeup to come down to my sponge.

15 ChristieNo Gravatar June 24, 2010 at 7:26 pm

I am in love with this new foundation by Maybelline! Once I finally figured out how to get the foundation to come out and onto the sponge, I was off and applying! I also purchased the Instant Age Rewind Protector Finishing Powder and that really helps to seal in this foundation. I anyone out there is a bit oily skinned, then I would suggest they get this powder to go over the top as well. I always like that matte look, so I have always used powder after applying a foundation. This product is fabulous! I am so happy! I found some that actually perfectly matches my skin tone as well. You have really perfected it this time.
Thanks so much for a great product.
I only wish you could see it on me right now!

I can’t believe so many of you people actually like this product! I think it was a total waste of money. Provides no coverage whatsoever and the applicator is a joke.

17 kelliNo Gravatar July 8, 2010 at 6:39 pm

this stuff sucks dont waste your money. i have normal skin, i bought the primer too.
it dosent matter the stuff goes on streaky and you can’t blend it with your fingers it
makes it worse. it lasts all day but if you touch it at all it comes right off. what a joke.
did not erase anything.

18 BarbaraNo Gravatar July 18, 2010 at 12:09 pm

I agree with Diana and Kelli. It does not give adequate coverage. I still need to use a make-up sponge to blend it so it’s not streaked and so I can blend it to the hairline. There is also a real “ick” factor about using a make-up sponge over and over. I have taken the sponge off to just use it like regular make-up. Once it’s gone, I will not buy it again.

I just purchased this make-up last month and love it! I have always been a Maybelline fan. Being over 50, I thought I would give it a try, and it seemed to decrease my wrinkle lines aroung my mouth. When I went out one afternoon with a male friend, he asked me if I’ve been using something on my face, as the lines aren’t as deep. This comment closed the deal. I love it!
( It did take me a while to get the flow started at first!)

20 LynnNo Gravatar August 8, 2010 at 6:07 pm

In my experience there was little coverage and zero staying power. If I could get my money back I would.
