essie The Art of Spring Collection

I know we’ve all had our fun (and still are!) with the vampy dark wines, dark greens, and rich berries the fall/winter season had to offer.  Nice and refreshing–The Art of Spring Collection from essie encourages us to lighten up a little!  Here are essie’s shade descriptions:

Pop Art Pink — Sheer chiffon pink
Lilacism — Satiny smooth Lilac
Neo Whimsical — Light as a feather rose-plum
Van D’go — Deliciously ripe melon
Tart Deco — Dreamy creamy coral
Red Nouveau — Fiery hot red pepper

Let’s take a further look…

Here we have Pop Art Pink, Lilacism, and Neo Whimsical.  Pop Art Pink is nowhere near as “dusty” looking in person as it appears.  It’s a perfect candidate for gals that love just a fresh, clean, and polished mani that is low maintenance.  I love that in the spring and summer, the color will look so fresh against freshly airbrushed tans!  Lilacism is fun and not too opaque, it stays on the creamy side.  You can really see the rose-plum in Neo Whimsical and it reminds me somewhat of Panda-monium Pink from the new OPI Hong Kong Collection.

I loved Van D’go the most– I wanted to take a bite out of it’s melon color!  Tart Deco is definitely the real bright of the collection, with Red Nouveau being the “essential red” that so many new collections are beginning to include.  All of these swatches were done with two coats, with the exception of Neo Whimsical which needed three.  One thing I have to remind myself when I’m working with shades that start off sheer, is not to drag my brush along the nail.  I remind myself to merely use the brush the lay the color on top of the nail.  When I don’t do that–mistakes happen.  Especially with lighter pastels it’s essential not to drag, but to lay!  I hope that makes sense!  If you lay the polish on, it levels out on it’s own quite nicely.

Oooooh, Lilacism will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine.

Love your swatches (as always). What a pretty, delicate, feminine collection. :)

I am with Recessionista. I love the Lilacism too! I like the Neo Whimsical but am worried about the three coats. I guess I am too impatient to wait for all of that to dry …

I know EB, I can be a little apprehensive about 3 coats myself…it’s pretty rare I have to do it luckily! I’m glad you gals liked Lilacism, it’s a nice spring shade :)

Two days, four stores, pouring rain with baby in tow … I found Lilacism. I bought the small mini packs so it came with the red, pink and tarte deco too. I painted the Lilacism. I still love the color but I am not sure I love it on me. :-/ I added a coat of Northern Lights glitter over the top and it was better. A few days later, it is growing on me but I am still not as in love with it as I was when I first saw it. (I did get complimented on it though). Maybe I just need a tan to really pull the color off? Not sure. But! The Red Nouveau is awsome on my skin color! And it was my least favorite of all the colors … strange how that works. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the lilac, just not on me. I’ll spend some time in the sun and see if I don’t change my mind.

Great site here – love it!

Thanks EB72! Glad you found Lilacism, but wish you didn’t have to endure so much to get there :) Try it again when the weather warms up a little with some self-tanner, it will still make a gorgeous pedi color!
