Oops! I did it again.
I cheated on my eyebrow lady, but it was all for research! You might remember that last year I had my eyebrows threaded and I loved it–but lately, there seems to be a phenomenon of brow bars and threading studios popping up like nail shops. I spotted two new ones yesterday in my usual stomping grounds that weren’t there the last time I was in the area, so that says something about the popularity surge of threading. I checked out Vinita’s Beauty & Threading Studio in Sherman Oaks, CA yesterday for a few reasons–but mainly it was price. I’m currently paying $20 for eyebrow waxing, but at this Vinita’s location, it was only $8.99. I decided to put myself on the chopping block…
Vinita’s is actually a chain of threading studios in Southern California that has been highly recommended in recent media, so I felt pretty confident. Usually I’m pretty nervous to try anyone new, but I wasn’t for some reason! I sat down in what looked like a modified barber’s chair and after a few questions about how I’d like my brows to look, the threading commenced and my gal was very delicate. If you’re afraid of threading (like I’ve been in the past), please don’t be! It’s actually less startling than the rip of a strip across your brow. I also had my lip threaded, to which I’m a stranger, so I didn’t know what to expect. It wasn’t nearly as bad as the anxiety I get right before my esthetician tears hot wax off my lip area and I would get my lip threaded again for sure. It wasn’t the best feeling in the world, but truly wasn’t bad at all. It felt like a few tiny tickles that borderlined on baby pinches, yet not horrible. I was less red than waxing leaves me, I haven’t gotten any little bumps on my lip area like waxing can be known to cause, and it’s quick and cheap! I’m a total threading advocate now and will definitely consider going back. Both eyebrow and lip threading services set me back just $13.99 plus tip.
My only gripe–there seems to be different pricing structures at each location. For example: the Beverly Hills location charges $11.99 for eyebrows, while their Cerritos location charges just $6.99–I was right in the middle of that at $8.99. Maybe this is the norm for chain brow studios and I just don’t know it, and I understand rent is higher in certain cities…I mean hi! Beverly Hills! But is it just me–or is a price discrepancy that large a little strange? Either way, I would still pay $11.99 if I had to. So I better just hush my mouth and fork over my $8.99 while I’m ahead!
Have you tried a threading studio yet, and are they quickly popping up in your area too?
