What do celebs like Kim Kardashian, Carrie Underwood, Nicole Scherzinger, and Audrina Patridge have in common?  They all look to makeup artist Stephen Moleski to make sure their fluttery eyelashes are envied by the masses as they grace countless magazine covers and walk the red carpet.

Moleski’s new lash line, Smoke and Mirrors Beauty features seven styles of lashes to fit every look you’re going for at an affordable price, considering lashes of similar quality (or even lesser) are going for almost twice his retail of $13.50!  I’ve rarely seen the flexibility Smoke and Mirrors lashes offer mimicked by other lines.  However, after trying out three of the styles I was super impressed with the craftsmanship and asked Stephen a few quick questions!

BJU: It’s so hard to apply lashes on ourselves at home. I know I’m often intimidated!  What’s the number one mistake you see women make–who maybe aren’t as comfortable with applying their own lashes at-home, and what tips do you recommend to break ourselves of the fear?

SM: With Smoke and Mirrors lashes, there is no need to be intimidated at all! The silicone band is so flexible that (with a little practice) you can seamlessly and effortlessly put my lashes on. I think that women make the mistake of not trying to apply traditional false lashes. These are not traditional lashes. Most people can’t put in contacts the first time either, or even apply eyeliner. It just takes practice.

I think that women should practice putting on their lashes when they have time. Not when they are in a rush. Also, try putting them on without any makeup; this way you can see exactly where the lash line is and get a seamless blend. Since the band is clear, the lashes look great with or without eye makeup.

BJU: Your Smoke and Mirrors lashes are some of the most flexible and well made lashes I’ve seen on the consumer market.  Do you use any special fibers or adhesives that maybe other brands might not be using?  How do you keep them so affordable for the quality?

SM: The flexible silicone band sets these lashes apart from others on the market. The lashes are 100% human hair, which make a huge difference. I decided to price the lashes fairly to keep them affordable for everyone.

BJU: You currently have 7 lash styles available for purchase, are there any new styles in the works–are you working on any new celeb-inspired styles that you can mention?

SM: Yes! I am designing a couple more styles of lashes that will be available later this year. I work with a lot of makeup artists so I chose to design styles of lashes that they wanted to use on their own clients but weren’t available on the market.

BJU: Of all of your lashes, if you had to pick just one style, which is your personal favorite and why?

SM: My favorite lash would have to be the New York City lash. The style works on any eye shape and has a soft, beautiful effect for any makeup look.

You can check out styles Atlanta, Chicago, Hollywood, Miami, Nashville, New York City, and Las Vegas on SmokeAndMirrorsBeauty.com.

Many thanks to Stephen Moleski for taking time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions!

Should glue be used with your lashes? and if so what type?

    Hi Sherri!

I can’t answer for Stephen, but I prefer the clear DUO Eyelash Adhesive. I think it’s one of the better ones on the market ;)
