Review: Maybelline One By One Volum’ Express Mascara

The chances are, you’ve seen a monster floor-display of the latest mascara from Maybelline at your local drugstore in the past few weeks, and if not—you probably will soon!  Maybelline One By One Volum’ Express Mascara is slated for a wide-release next month, and I had the chance to check it out to share my experience with you.  Let’s see how well it fares!

One of the key points of difference as with any mascara, is the brush.  The One By One brush has about 300 alternating long and short, thin bristles to reach every lash, and is dubbed The Lash Catcher by Maybelline.  They spent four years of research and development on this baby, and it works out to be about 3 bristles per lash (based on an average of 100 lashes per eye).

The brush itself is a soft and pliable elastomer, and is tapered on both ends to help reach those pesky corner lashes.  Are we liking it so far?

Here’s the deal. [Read more...]

4 Perfect-for-New-Year's-Eve Glittery Nail Polishes

This is a TotalBeauty.com nails article

I recently waxed poetic about the possibility of wearing glittery eyeliner or eyeshadow for the holidays, which I totally did, BTW. And, I’ll admit, it looked quite smashing and not nearly as tween-y as expected. But now it’s time for glittery nails, here’s how I’m getting them …

Dilara Reviews: SAMPAR Nocturnal Line-up Mask

Dilara checks in from her little corner of the world, a very cold and snowy Ohio!  She tried out an anti-aging mask from French luxury skincare brand, SAMPAR, to see if it could help alleviate her dull winter skin.  Check out her thoughts!

I love products that take little to no effort to use, but give you great results. SAMPAR Nocturnal Line-Up Mask does just the trick. There are lots of products that promise cell regeneration and the appearance of diminished wrinkles, but usually it involves several steps and a handful of products. SAMPAR made it easy—simply apply the Nocturnal Line-Up Mask to your face and neck after you do your end-of-the-day cleansing; go to sleep, wake up and rinse it off. [Read more...]

Sneak Peek: Hello Kitty Collection for Sephora Liquid Nail Art Swatches

I’m always very excited to see my UPS guy, but today I was SUPER-extra excited, because I knew the order I placed last weekend during the Hello Kitty Beauty for Sephora preview/private sale would be arriving.  Just to recap—the line won’t be available for purchase in Sephora stores or on sephora.com until next month, but they offered a very limited selection of the Hello Kitty products during a 48 hour private sale for Beauty Insiders.  To be honest, I have not received any samples, images, or further information on the collection to share just yet, but I’m hoping I will soon!  The nail polishes I’m showing you right now were the only products I was able to scoop up during the pre-sale, and these were not press samples.  I feel fortunate that I was even able to snag these.  The first time I tried, all of the polishes (along with just about everything else) were sold out!  They must have reserved product for the second day, because when I checked again on Sunday morning, these were available—but they didn’t last for long.  As an afterthought, I went back to grab something else just minutes later…and the polishes were out of stock again!

So without further ado…here are three of the Hello Kitty Beauty for Sephora Liquid Nail Art nail polishes:

I know, the bottle is just too cute!  Of the eight shades in the collection, I was able to scoop up three; Minty, Banana Cream, and Blueberry.  Even though the bottles are shaped like her cute little head, it seems like they hold about an average amount of polish—these aren’t minis.  I can’t tell you the exact amount, because unfortunately I cannot read a single thing on the bottom of the bottle other than the shade name.  It looks like the ingredients and weight are printed on the other side of that tiny sticker, but I’d need a microscope to read it!  The brush itself is a decent size, and I have no problems applying the polish with it—but due to the shape of the bottle being kind of stubby, the brush is on the shorter side.

First Impressions: bareMinerals Prime Time Brightening Foundation Primer & Brightening Eyelid Primer

I’ve been tinkering around with two of the newest products from bareMinerals this week…

They won’t officially launch until next month, but you can take a peek at the Prime Time Brightening Foundation Primer and Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer along with me!  Both are new additions to the pre-existing bareMinerals Prime Time line of primers from Bare Escentuals, the pioneers of mineral makeup as we know it.

Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer

You may already be familiar with Prime Time Eyelid Primer, but Brightening is a totally different take on the product.  The difference lies within the color of the product, affecting the outcome of your eyeshadow look.  The original version is a neutral tint, while Brightening is available in two light-reflective shades; Gold or Pearl, both of which will slightly influence the shade of eyeshadow you apply over it.  I tried out gold, and to be perfectly honest—it reminds me of Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin!  Sadly, I don’t have Sin here to offer you a comparison—and it’s not a spot-on dupe.  But the similarity lies within the shimmery champagne tones.  I think of this Prime Time shade as more of a peachy-champagne tone than a true gold.  Urban Decay’s Sin is more beige for sure, but in terms of concept, shimmer, and opacity—they are similar.  If it helps anyone out there who is a hardcore Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion fan (and might be on the fence about trying a primer from bareMinerals), I am an avid UDPP enthusiast myself and swear by it.  I trust my Prime Time Eyelid Primer just as much as my UDPP, I find it just as reliable for anchoring my shadows on my eyelids.

Here’s the Brightening Eyelid Primer (gold) solo, and also with one of my fave bareMinerals eye colors (Enlightened) over it:
