Review & Swatches: Shades from Essie French Affair Collection Spring 2011

Let’s bid winter adieu, shall we? I’m totally ready, and Essie hopes we are too! The French Affair Collection for spring 2011 boasts a retro spin on six pastel neutrals, that pay homage to the pretty sheers we love Essie for, but these are a little more opaque than they may seem.

Essie founder and color maven Essie Weingarten explains, “I think every woman has a little Brigitte Bardot in her, and this palette coaxes her out!”

I wish I had all six of the shades in my hot little hands to share with you, but I do have three—I hope you see one here that you like! Here’s the shade breakdown on all six shades: [Read more…]

A Weekend With AVEENO at The Independent Spirit Awards!

I know it’s been a few days, and I’m back! I just spent an exciting weekend in Santa Monica, California (not too far from home for me) with all of the new AVEENO Brand Ambassadors from all over the U.S.! I am happy to tell you that as part of my new partnership with AVEENO, I’ll be able to share my thoughts about all of the latest products, and also tell you about some exciting initiatives that are coming up. But perhaps the highlight of my weekend (besides hanging with 24 other beauty-loving dolls) was attending the Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Upon our arrival, we walked the red (or grey) carpet…and you might be able to spot about half of your AVEENO Ambassadors in this photo. I’m one of them (tucked behind a publicist, I’m sure), but as we were making our way through, Anne Heche was just ahead of us. It was pure CRAZINESS. One person would yell at us to keep walking, then another would yell at us to stop. And the screaming! Let’s just say that I don’t really see myself doing any red carpet interviews of celebs in the future! I’ll leave that to the pros. [Read more…]

Review & Swatches: Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color SPF12

New for spring 2011, Bobbi Brown brings us Rich Lip Color SPF12.  What makes this lipstick formula unique is it’s translucent base that’s paired up with pure color pigments, resulting in fantastic color payoff that looks crisp but feels light. It scores mega points for the SPF12 alone, but the way it leaves my lips feeling comfortable and with the color lasting longer than average—I’m really liking this new formula! [Read more…]

Review: Original Sprout Miracle Detangler, Natural Shampoo, & Scrumptious Baby Cream

Now that I’m a mom-to-be, I am learning that what you put ON your body is just as important as what you put IN your body. Unfortunately, there are products out there that contain harmful chemicals and additives that can actually contribute to health problems to your unborn baby.  Scary! When a few samples of Original Sprout items fell into my hands I was more than eager to give them a shot. They tout that their products are natural and contain no harmful chemicals. And the extra added bonus is that they promote these products for the whole family by stating “For Babies & Up” right there on the front of the package.

First I tried their Natural Shampoo.  My hair felt clean and soft after use, but I really wish I would have had my hands on some of their Deep Conditioner to follow up. My hair is coarse and dry, so it is super rare I just shampoo and go.  Keep in mind this shampoo is safe for babies too so it has a rather low suds-factor which is great for youngins, but maybe mom might want some more foam.

After shampooing, I followed up with the Miracle Detangler and let me tell you—the name of this product is accurate. Growing up, I have flashbacks of sitting on the front porch while my mom would spritz detangler in my hair and try to comb out all the knots. Had this stuff been around in the early 80’s I would have been a much happier child—a miracle! It is rather rich, so I felt like the detangler actually added a conditioning element to my hair. One caution though—this stuff is so rich the pump got clogged a few times. I suggest rinsing the nozzle in hot water after every use. [Read more…]
