It looks like OPI chose more vivid tones for the Texas Collection, and I’m so glad! I was really happy to finally see these in-person, and right off the bat I’m going to tell you that this collection as a whole doesn’t disappoint me at all. The first thing I love is a change of finish. Six of the new shades are what OPI calls “sorbet-like”, and it really does make them special. We can always do opaque creams, so to see sorbet/jelly-like textures for the seasons that bring warmer weather is a nice change of pace.
“Texas provided the inspiration for this season, with bright colors and classic neutrals that draw from the American spirit,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Taking cues from the state’s naturally beautiful backdrop, the Texas Collection features warm tones from honey and tangerine to dazzling hues of violet and sky blue.”
The more I see jelly, the more I like it—so I’ve got options here. The main thing is that they’re much more sheer and show the nail line. The only downside to this is for those who don’t particularly care for that kind of finish, and prefer more opaques and satins. The good news is, there are a few in here that you’ll be able to achieve full-coverage with, as the remaining six shades range from shimmery sheers to creamy opaques. You’ll notice quite a finish difference within the swatches, for sure! Here’s the shade breakdown from OPI:
San Tan-tonio
A “honey” of a ten-gallon tan!
Suzi Loves Cowboys
But she loves this campfire chocolate shade s’more!
It’s Totally Fort Worth It
A shimmery lavender grey that’s so worthy of you.
Don’t Mess with OPI
A lean, mean, kick-grass forest green.
Austin-tatious Turquoise
Cowgirls love this bodacious blue-green.
I Vant to Be A-Lone Star
You won’t want to share this starry Texas-sky blue.
Y’all Come Back Ya Hear? (sorbet finish)
This Texas tangerine will be waitin’ for ya!
Big Hair…Big Nails (not pictured, sorbet finish)
A rosy pageant peach.
Guy Meets Gal-veston (sorbet finish)
An “engaging” coastal coral.
Too Hot Pink to Hold ‘Em (sorbet finish)
A red-hot pink-red that deals a winning hand.
Do You Think I’m Tex-y? (sorbet finish)
A “berry” sexy bloom of Dallas dahlia.
Houston We Have a Purple (sorbet finish)
A galactic red-violet that’s ready to “rocket roll”!
I have several favorites here, but I want to point out that Too Hot Pink To Hold ‘Em is a must-have if you’re following this year’s honeysuckle trend. Once a few of these were on, I thought they slightly resembled a few shades from the China Glaze Anchors Away Collection—like Y’all Come Back Now Ya Hear? is close to Life Preserver, Don’t Mess With OPI could be related to Starboard, and I Vant To Be A-Lone Star is just a little bluer/brighter than Pelican Gray. They’re not spot-on dupes, but I always find it interesting that brands are so close when they draw their inspiration for each season.
Three thin coats were used for all of the sorbet-like finish swatches, with just two coats with the remaining six shades—they all have a nice flow to them. (Big Hair…Big Nails is missing from the swatches because it had a little bit of a rough ride on the way here and wasn’t usable.)
Availability: The Texas Collection is available now at professional salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and Ulta, for $8.50 each.

I saw this collection when I was at ULTA last, but had already spent a ton of money on gifts for someone, so didn’t buy any of these. I think I might have to go back and get I Want to be A-Lone Star. All of the red/pinkish colors are super similar to what I already have at home (although they’re my fave colors to wear), so not sure if I’d buy them.
god, I love nail polish.
have a good day!
I’m looking for a honeysuckle nail colour and got excited when I saw your swatch for Too Hot Pink to Hold ‘Em! However when I saw it in person it looked like a fuschia, not a pink/red honeysuckle colour… in fact the salon’s swatch for Guy Meets Gal-Veston looked honeysuckle! Guess I will just have to try it out and see
i love the collection, but does any one think that dont mess with opi is dupe for jade is the new black and totally fort wort it is kind of a match for sea spray from the anchors away collection from china glaze?
Jacqui: I think you’re on to something. It’s difficult to describe, but I truly think the salon swatches MAY be slightly misleading because of how the sorbet finish looks on the nail. After taking another look at these…you could go either way! Guy Meets Gal-Veston is just a little bit more red/orange, but can look a little bit more on the watermelon pink side. I think you could use either depending on what takes on more pink with your skin tone
Orla: Thank you! Don’t Mess With OPI could be a cousin for Jade is the New Black…just not as opaque/creamy, it’s almost like this one has a squishy finish though. In-person, It’s Totally Fort Worth It isn’t close to Sea Spray at all, but I Vant To Be A-Lone Star definitely could be related to both the Pelican Gray & Sea Spray from the China Glaze Anchors Away collection
these colors are beautiful in the bottle …the sorbet finish however is like a watercolor…the colors are very sheer with poor coverage. I bought three of the shades…big hair, big nails….too pink too hold em and ya’ll come back ya hear. My daughters and I have used 2 of the shades and are currently wearing 3 coats and it is still transparent in places. the other non sorbet finishes may be great but i would never recommend the sorbets to anyone. I have used opi faithfully for well over 10 years this is the first time I am disappointed and hope their next collection is the quality it should be.
According to Michelle (the blogger) from All Lacquered Up, if you apply a layer of white polish under the sorbets, they don’t look sheer anymore. Apparently, after three thin coats, it should look perfect.
Thanks for the tip, Lillian!
