Which New bareMinerals Facial Cleanser is Right For You? Purifying Facial Cleanser vs. Deep Cleansing Foam

Okay chicas, by now I’m sure you’ve heard all the fuss about the new bareMinerals skincare range. And if you haven’t, let me be the first to tell you that I think it’s very well-deserved buzz. But since the line is so new, you might be a little confused with what’s best for you—so I figured I’d start with the two daily cleansers, because let’s face it…starting with clean skin is where it’s at!

Before I delve into the differences between the Deep Cleansing Foam and the Purifying Facial Cleanser, let’s chat about the RareMinerals ActiveSoil Complex that’s in all of the bareMinerals skincare products. Their proprietary blend of minerals has been clinically proven to increase cell turnover, while providing superior antioxidant benefits. If you ask me, the ActiveSoil Complex is kind of like Gatorade for your skin—since it delivers key electrolytes to help balance and retain moisture. Sound good? Okay, let’s get moving!

The bareMinerals Deep Cleansing Foam is a water-activated foam cleanser in a tube. And it REALLY foams. You need the smallest amount, and almost a pea-size is too much! It gets this crazy foamy lather that feels nice and creamy, and gets deep into the pore. In addition to the ActiveSoil Complex, there’s avocado oil, starfruit, and grape seed oil for added antioxidant protection and skin therapeutic benefits. You can use this AM & PM, and it cuts the grime for even the most heavy of makeup wearers. I can’t imagine the 4.2 oz. tube not lasting for months, and if it doesn’t—you may be using a little too much. This one you’ll need to keep away from the eye area. If you like to feel that deep-down, squeaky clean, Deep Cleansing Foam is for you!  $20, bareescentuals.com and sephora.com

The bareMinerals Purifying Facial Cleanser is kind of like the gentle giant. It’s dispensed from a 6 fl. oz. pump and comes out as a slightly-milky liquid that’s also water-activated. This is a really gentle cleanser that can even be used on the eyelids to help dissolve makeup. You’ll need about 1-2 pumps per use, and you can use this for both AM & PM use as well. In my past review, I’ve compared this product to Philosophy’s Purity. (I make that comparison, not Bare Escentuals.) This is just that simple, all-in-one cleanser that’s fit for use by all. Pineapple, lychee, and guava fruit enzymes gently exfoliate without irritating, and there’s no frilly fragrance involved. If you like a gentle milky cleanser that just gets the job done, and makes the skin feel soft and comfortable—this one is for you!  $20, bareescentuals.com and sephora.com

How do you like the new cleansers compared to the rare minerals poweder-add-water cleanser? That’s the one I use currently and I was very sad they changed it.

    Hi Marilyn,

To my knowledge, the only thing that changed was the packaging and the name on the old rareMinerals water-activated cleanser. What seems different about it? (I’m just curious.)

The new ones are totally different than the water-activated, and I like them both for different reasons. I like the Purifying because it’s super gentle and it practically melts my makeup off—I can even use it on my eye makeup. I really like the Deep Cleansing Foam for a deep-down squeaky-clean feeling on the other-hand. Since neither are really comparable to the water-activated…I’m not sure I can offer much comparison of one being better than the other ;)
