With summer swiftly approaching, it’s that time to start investigating your waterproof eye makeup options—and what better product to consider than the official waterproof eyeliner of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM in Miami, right? I spent a few years living in Florida, and let me tell you—if an eyeliner can make it there without smudging, running, or fading…it can make it anywhere! Make Up For Ever is known for their bold colors that perform well under pressure (their entire line is just phenomenal), and the Aqua Liner is the newest addition to their award-winning Aqua range.
I tried out three colors of the 15 vibrant shades, let’s take a look!
Okay, so standard black…I get it. But #13 Mat Black is seriously jet black, matte, and doesn’t budge!
Now we start moving into exciting territory with #6 Iridescent Navy Blue. This one is SO pretty and will look amazing on brown eyes!
And my favorite of the three I tried, #3 Iridescent Emerald Green. See why?
Swatches of the three:
Swatches of the entire range (from sephora.com):
What makes these liners take a licking and keep on ticking is that they contain a special flexible waterproof polymer that allows the liner (and vivid color) to form a film that actually moves with the eyelid; to resist peeling, flaking, and running. I found this little factoid pretty interesting: Make Up For Ever says that they use amino acids derived from apple juice for their high-color intensity and bold color payoff. How ya like them apples?
The tip is a flexible foam tip which makes it easy to apply (even for a liquid liner novice like myself), and it dries quickly. In fact, it dried much more quickly than the Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Liners that I recently fell so in love with. Another thing that I really like about the Aqua Liner is that everyone is covered in terms of the shade range. Not everyone likes glitter *gasp*, or bold color. So there’s a great mixture of mattes, iridescents, and diamond finishes in 15 colors. It won’t be hard to find one, if not two that you like. Case in point—I’m hooked on the Iridescent Navy Blue and Iridescent Emerald Green myself. Make Up For Ever is a professional artistry line, so you’ll notice the prices might be a little higher than other prestige lines…I feel it’s justified. And be prepared with your oil-based eye makeup remover dolls, these babies were meant to last.
