Review & Swatches: Urban Decay Rollergirl Eyeshadow Palette for Summer 2011

Remember going to the roller rink on Friday nights for “lights out” skate? If you don’t—it’s okay! For me, it was a middle-school thing and my girlfriends and I lived for it. We planned out in advance what songs we were going to request from the DJ (I often asked for Debbie Gibson), and I think know that we all wished for a cute guy to come hold our hands to skate for the slow songs. NEVER HAPPENED. But it was still fun! Apparently I wasn’t the only one in love with the roller rink back in the day, especially since the new Urban Decay Rollergirl Eyeshadow Palette was inspired by the summer of 1986—when Ms. Decay had her first kiss at the roller rink at the age of 13—those were the days, fun times!

As an ode to the roller rink, this new summer palette houses four spectacular shades of eyeshadow, a travel size 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, and also includes a travel size Lip Junkie gloss.

  • Darkhorse — bronze patina eyeshadow
  • Suspect — golden eyeshadow with dimensional shift
  • Verve — pale champagne eyeshadow with oyster shimmer
  • Woodstock — hot pink eyeshadow with subtle fuchsia shimmer
  • Whiskey — dark brown 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
  • Crush — sheer bright hot pink Lip Junkie Lip Gloss

The neutral eyeshadows in this palette are killer and make it worth the $32 price tag alone, and believe it or not—Woodstock (the bright pink) is a very wearable shade! Please don’t be afraid to experiment with it like I did.

Swatches:

The texture and pigmentation of the eyeshadows in this palette are of the same great quality we’ve come to love and expect from Urban Decay, so there’s no disappointment for me there. I find them all easy to blend, and that shades Verve and Suspect are truly shining stars! This was my first experience with the Lip Junkie gloss, and I’m already hooked on the vanilla mint flavor and glossy patent leather-like shine.

This is a great summer fun palette with three neutrals that will take you all the way through fall—and the bonus gloss and 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil are pretty sweet additions! I’ll have a peek at the Rollergirl Nail Kit coming up for you soon, so stay tuned.

I think I can find some possible dupes in naked palette and darkhorse is already there and I’m pretty sure I have a pink like that but that looks more travel friendly and the packaging is so cute and fun!
