You’d think that it was physically impossible by now to create yet another great mascara with how many there are on the market—but good thing for us mascara junkies! They keep on coming. L’Oreal released their Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara to much fanfare last year, but only recently introduced the Carbon Black and Waterproof formulas. Having missed the original, I have been wearing Voluminous Million Lashes in Carbon Black recently, and here’s what I learned!
The brush is like a fortress of webs; evenly spaced, with the perfect amount of flexibility to separate and coat the lashes equally at the same time, without any clumping. The combination of both short and longer bristles really allows me to get in there and separate. The formula is a little more moist than most, without any dryness and comes out of the tube with just the right amount on the brush. That tells me that the wiper at the nape of the tube is doing its job and was designed with keeping clumps out of the picture in mind.
Before & after photo:
I haven’t worn the waterproof version yet because I wanted to give a regular formula a shot first, since sometimes waterproof formulas can be a little dry. When it comes to being flake-free, Voluminous Million Lashes in Carbon Black passes for all-day wear for me and keeps my lashes looking lifted. I am not a fan of lash curlers for my own lashes because I feel like they do more harm than good for me—so I can definitely appreciate it when a mascara does that job for me. I love the separation this provides, which plays up the best of what I’ve got to work with. Realistically, we knew it wasn’t going to give me a million lashes—right? But does it make it look like I have more than what I started with? I think so! If there were one thing I could change about this mascara, it would be just a tad more volume. I presume the formula is compensating in that department for the lack of clumps, so I’ll take what I can get. The difference between black and Carbon Black, is that Carbon Black is two times as intense as regular black. Good to know!
This one is purchase-worthy in my opinion, it’s missing half a star for wanting just a little more volume out of it, but excels in all other areas.
