Review & Swatches: Poppy King ‘The Magic of Lipstick’ Collection for Boots No7 USA Lipgloss & Lipstick in Intrigue

If you’re not familiar with Poppy King, allow me to introduce you. At the age of 18, Poppy’s quest to find the perfect matte red lipstick changed her life and turned the lipstick world as we knew it on its head. Seeing a gap in the market, she set out to create the perfect formula herself since she couldn’t find ‘the one’. What started as a simple beauty wish over 20 years ago, evolved into an entire lipstick empire—after all, Poppy King is the ‘lipstick queen’! Many years and several shades later, she’s known for great finishes and shades in her own lip color line. Realizing her genius, Boots No7 recently paired up with the makeup mogul, offering a range of affordable, limited-edition lipsticks and complementary lipglosses in seven easy-to-wear shades that you can find at Target stores.

Poppy named each shade in ‘The Magic of Lipstick’ Collection after the different aura or personality she feels the color represents—from nude rose, to dark berry.

  • Allure: This soft peachy shade is similar to one’s natural lip color and suitable for women of all ages.
  • Confidence: Who doesn’t love a classic nude shade? This hue is an iconic fit for today’s natural beauty.  [Read more…]

Review: David Evangelista Beauty Pouf! Texturizing & Volumizing Powder and Hush… Volumizing Dry Shampoo

My hair is so thin and fine, that nearly every time my stylist blows it out, she remarks at how wispy it is. “I KNOW! I deal with it every single day!” I have to keep myself from shrieking at her. But she’s a sweetheart, and adorable, and let’s face it, she patiently puts up with the constant changing and revolving of my hairstyles to try to accommodate my fringy, stubborn tresses.  After watching the HSN presentation for David Evangelista Pouf! Texturizing & Volumizing Powder and Hush… Volumizing Dry Shampoo, I held hope that I too could have voluptuous strands someday.

On the day after shampooing and conditioning (I’m usually a dedicated cleanse and condition every day type of gal, but with the promise of a thick and healthy mop, I will break my vow), I flipped my head upside down and sprayed my roots and crown with the dry shampoo. After letting it work its magic for a minute or so, I combed it through from roots to tips to ensure an even application. Suddenly my ‘greasies’ were tamed without the powder or cakey residue that some dry shampoos can leave behind. It also had a clean scent, and convinced me that a dry shampoo can actually make my hair feel clean without weighing it down.  [Read more…]

Review: Somme Institute 5-Step Skincare Regimen

Quick and easy are two of my favorite adjectives to describe my morning routine. And my evening routine. Actually, any routine of mine. When I received the Somme Institute skin care line, I raised an eyebrow when I realized it was five steps. Five steps! But the promise of rejuvenating my skin compelled me to give it a shot.

Step 1: Nourishing Cleanser, gentle cleansing

Step 2: Transport, exfoliation without abrasion

Step 3: Serum, boosting collagen and lightening discoloration

Step 4: A-Bomb, accelerate cellular renewal

Step 5: Double Defense, protecting sunblock with SPF 30

The good thing about these five steps is that they are all based on Molecular Dispersion Technology 5 (MDT5). These products contain a molecular antioxidant compound of 5 highly engineered vitamins (A, C, E, D, B3 and B5) that penetrate deep within the skin to repair and rejuvenate skin cells. Somme Institute boasts that this formula can treat all skin types and conditions including acne, discoloration, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles and the system claims it can also improve your skin tone and texture.  [Read more…]

Try This: Proactiv Deep Cleansing Wash (Video Review)

Over the past few months, I’ve discovered something. Even though I’m not really Proactiv’s target consumer—there are actually several products in the line I’m finding to be beneficial for my skin! I’ve been sharing those products in a series of reviews for you, with the hopes that you’ll find some of the same products helpful for you as well.

While “bacne” isn’t the most fun subject in the world to talk about, it is something I’ve been struggling with for a while. I finally figured out what was causing it, and it may be the same thing causing yours too! Check out my video review for the Deep Cleansing Wash to find out what it was, and how I’ve been able to manage it better.

Review: AVEENO Positively Ageless Lifting & Firming Eye Cream

Eye cream is one of those deserted island products for me, I can rarely stand to be without it. And for good reason, too! The skin under the eyes is about ten times thinner than the skin on the face. I once read that our eyes can produce over 10,000 movements a day—and that’s about 10,000 more chances to develop fine lines around such a delicate area. If you cry a lot, have allergies, or have a tendency to rub your eyes, all of those things contribute to damaging the skin’s elasticity too. As if we didn’t have enough to worry about!

Taking care of the skin around our eyes is very important, as is choosing an eye cream that can not only help prevent damage to the area, but also to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, darkness, and puffiness. I think I’ve found something to help my own under eye issues, and it’s AVEENO’s Positively Ageless Lifting & Firming Eye Cream[Read more…]

The Lipstick League — week of 11.21.11

Well hello there! How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was super quiet this year, I have bronchitis and I’ve been feeling pretty awful in the past few days. We decided to go with a “less is more” approach this year, which I was super happy about! Did you do any Black Friday shopping? I did a little bit online, but there was no I way I was going to fight the crowds to save a buck—and it’s SO scary. I’m pretty sure the rest of my shopping will be done online too, the hustle just isn’t very appealing to me anymore! Don’t get me wrong, I love a deal as much as anyone else, but I’m not willing to risk bodily injury for it. This week’s links are pretty short due to the holiday, but I still hope you enjoy the reads! And now for this week’s question…

Question of the Week: – What’s your favorite lip color for fall/winter 2011?

Answer: Right now, I just can’t get enough of my Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie. If you haven’t checked them out yet, see my review. I’m head over heels for this new Revlon product!

Beauty Junkies Unite – Say what you will about those Kardashians, but they sure have some great shades in their new nail polish collection from Nicole by OPI, Kardashian Kolors.

Gouldylox Reviews – I usually like to remain positive, but I had an insane reaction to this hair remover. And I’m not sure how I lived without these hair pins this long.

Lipglossiping – gets an inside look at one of the charity events held at the giant Boots HQ in Nottingham!

Nouveau CheapSally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips: do not underestimate the power of (nail) transformation that these can bring to your digits this holiday season.

Prime Beauty – awards NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner in Via Appia a Bronze Medal and a Beauty All Star award!

Phyrra – shows you how to become a knockout with Knockout Nails!

Currently Loving: LUMENE Sensitive Touch 5 Minute SOS Cream

I consider myself to have pretty tough skin, it’s not really what I find to be sensitive. But that same toughness rears its ugly head in often uncomfortable ways—my elbows get so dry that they feel like sandpaper, and sometimes they crack. My knees usually aren’t any better this time of year, the drastic fluctuation of temperatures leaves the skin on my body in a constant state of chaos! Last week, we had several days in the 50’s, and this weekend, it’s in the 70’s. Mother Nature, hellooo! Are you in there? You need to make up your mind!

This year, I’ve armed myself with some essentials to help make it through—so I’m ready winter…bring it on! I’ve been using LUMENE’s Sensitive Touch 5 Minute SOS Cream on my elbows, knees, heels, and hands—and I am truly amazed. This gentle moisturizer is such a multi-tasker that it can be used from head to toe.  [Read more…]
