Review & Swatches: Urban Decay Mariposa Eyeshadow Palette

Have you always wanted an Urban Decay Book of Shadows Palette but could never bring yourself to shell out the big bucks? The Mariposa Palette for Holiday 2011 just might be your cup of tea! This 10-shade eyeshadow wardrobe contains four colors, exclusive to the Mariposa Palette—and six tried and true Urban decay shades with a mini brush. Housed in a butterfly-embossed tin, this is a durable, travel-friendly palette that’s about 4 ½ inches square.

Shades included:

Gunmetal — dark grey with silver glitter
Haight — mermaid blue-green shimmer
Infamous — magenta shimmer with slight duo-chrome (Mariposa exclusive)
Money — pale green shimmer
Mushroom — medium shimmering grey with brown undertones
Skimp — pale nude shimmer
Spotlight — medium taupe sparkle (Mariposa exclusive)
Limelight — bronze shimmer with subtle gold glitter (Mariposa exclusive)
Wreckage — medium brown shimmer (Mariposa exclusive)
Rockstar — dark metallic eggplant

While Limelight and Infamous seemed a little washed out, I found the other shades worthy of their place in Mariposa. What I like about this palette is that it doesn’t quite require the financial commitment that most other Urban Decay palettes can. At just $3.90 a shade (plus a bonus signature shadow brush), each is a decent size. This is a neutral-heavy palette with a few pops of color, which will be a great holiday gift for those who don’t walk much on the wild side, but can appreciate the option.
