Review & Swatches: Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush

Choo choo! The new release train for 2012 is chuggin’ right along! Are you on-board yet? I am! Maybelline has several new products launching officially next month, and I’m having a lot of fun trying them out. So far, I’ve reviewed two of the new items—the EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Eyeshadows (they’re the bomb dot com), and the SuperStay 10HR Stain Glosses. Now, we’re moving into complexion territory with their new Dream Bouncy Blushes! These are a little different than the Dream Mousse blushes. Dream Mousse has an airy, whipped texture—while Dream Bouncy has a spongy texture that’s a little more dense.

Available in 10 shades, Dream Bouncy Blush is oil-free and very lightweight. Comprised of a hybrid gel formula that feels like a cream, yet wears more on the soft, powdery side—they’re neither too shimmery or matte once applied. It’s right in the middle for a little more of a naturally flushed look.  [Read more…]

Review & Swatches: Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Eyeshadow

Here in Southern California, we have these epic windstorm events called the Santa Anas, and sometimes they get pretty bad. Last month, our power was out for over 13 hours because of them, and some of our neighbors to the east went without power for a week. Aside from modern-day inconveniences, these winds kick up my allergies something FIERCE. And ever since the winds started coming and going this season, my eyes have paid the price! They’re frequently very watery, red, and itchy—making it nearly impossible to keep eye makeup on lately. Pretty much the only thing that stays on my eyes during times like these, are cream shadows. I’ve had the perfect excuse the put these new Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Eyeshadows to work, their arrival time couldn’t have been any more perfect!

Available in drugstores next month, you’ll find a collection of Color Tattoo cream shadows in 10 shades; five of which are pretty neutral, while the other five are high-impact fashion shades. These are like a hybrid of Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams and MAC Paint Pots at a fraction of the cost. I don’t know about you, but this is music to my ears. [Read more…]

The Lipstick League: Christmas Edition

Are you ready yet? I think I have one more gift to wrap, but I LOVE wrapping presents. I practically make an event out of it! I was using gift bags for the longest time, but now I detest them for Christmas because I want to wrap with pretty paper, ribbons, and shiny bows! I’m wishing those who celebrate a very merry Christmas, and it’s my hope that you receive every little thing your heart desires.

Question of the Week: Do you have a beauty-related New Year’s resolution? What is it?

Answer: I consider this to be beauty related even though it doesn’t have much to do with cosmetics—but in 2012, my focus will be completely fitness oriented! I know every year at this time, everyone makes a resolution to get and stay fit, but I’m REALLY going to. I’ve enlisted the help of a doctor and a nutritionist already, and I’m totally committed to making huge life changes! In terms of actual beauty however, I resolve to consistently take much better care of my hair. Sometimes it frustrates me so much that I just give up and don’t treat it with the TLC it deserves. Maybe if I treated it better, it wouldn’t frustrate me so much! Do you have a beauty-related resolution too?

Review & Swatches: Maybelline SuperStay 10 Hour Stain Gloss

In the new year, you’ll find no shortage of long-wearing products hitting the market in your local drugstores—and Maybelline is totally on-board. With two new innovative lip color formulas debuting, I’ve tried them both! Starting next month you’ll find their SuperStay 10 Hour Stain Gloss shades, along with their new SuperStay 14 Hour Lipstick collection in stores. To help you set off in the right direction to decide which products will be best for you, here’s a review and swatches for the new Stain Glosses! (The SuperStay 14 Hour Lipstick review is forthcoming.)

The SuperStay 10 Hour Stain Gloss collection is comprised of 10 shades, with most being pinks and berries. There are a few purple and brown shades too, but I find that the browns seem to borderline on purple. Each bears both numbers and shade names. The shade names are super small on the end of the tube, so I’ve included both the shade names with their corresponding numbers to help you find them easier at the store.  [Read more…]

Sneak Peek, Review & Swatches: Bare Escentuals BUXOM True Hue Blush

I’m SO excited about these! In February, Bare Escentuals brings us eight new hues of powder blush in their fun BUXOM lineup of products, True Hue Blush. This is new territory for BUXOM, as True Hue is the first ever complexion product from the brand. The second I laid eyes on these, I squealed with delight! The shades are bright and perky, and the product feels so velvety smooth to the touch.

The component is a nice and sturdy mirrored compact that closes securely until you want it open, yet still opens without having to use your nails. I think this is pretty makeup bag friendly!  [Read more…]

Proactiv Advanced Blemish Treatment to the Rescue!

Over the past few months, I’ve explored the Proactiv line of products, more than I ever thought I would, especially since I’ve left most of my acne woes long and far behind me. But that doesn’t stop the hormone-induced pimple here and there I get from month to month. Most pimple spot-treatments look chalky, have a horrid smell, and you can’t wear them under makeup. So that often leaves daytime treatment out of the question! Then, I go to bed covered in a pimple product that you can see (and smell)—while my husband just rolls his eyes at me. But why only use a treatment at night? I want to fight them during the day too, but I don’t want the world to know it!

I am SO glad that I participated in this Proactiv challenge, and I can’t believe that I found products in the line that are actually appropriate for me. The Advanced Blemish Treatment is one of the last products in the current collection that I found was a great fit. This got rid of some pesky forehead and jawline pimples without over-drying my skin. I usually steer clear of benzoyl peroxide treatments for that very reason—but I lucked out with this since it contains soothing and healing ingredients like panthenol and allantoin too.  [Read more…]
