One of the things that stresses me out about holiday parties is, of all things, my hair. A close second would be my outfit choice—but really—it’s my hair! Luckily, it seems like the most popular hairstyles for holiday 2011 look relatively easy. Whew! With a little inspiration, a few good products, and some simple tips—we’re well on our way to having festive tresses.

1. Pick your style ahead of time. While this seems like a complete no-brainer, some of us wait until the day before (or even the day of) the event to select a ‘do. Don’t be that girl! Each of these styles are easy-peasy. (If you can’t braid, check with a friend who can! Some salons are now offering inexpensive ‘braid bar’ services, like Nine Zero One Salon in Los Angeles. Ask around!)

2. Never underestimate the power of a simple accessory. Adding a glitzy barrette to a simple style you put together in a few minutes can take any hair from ho-hum to glam in flash. And a black headband? It suddenly has super-powers when you put it on a relaxed hairstyle that’s completely off your face. 3. Finish your style with great products. The last thing you want is for your hair to look stiff or un-natural. Complete your style with a hairspray that dispenses with a fine micro-mist and offers brushable hold. We like L’Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong—it does the trick and still allows the hair to move while keeping the look intact. Also, don’t forget to add a little shine spray, it’s the holidays and you want gloss! Redken’s Shine Flash Glistening Mist 02 is the perfect product for the job.

Now, you’re good to go! Have fun, but stay away from the eggnog!
