Along with focusing on health and fitness in 2012, I also have another resolution, and it’s beauty-related. I’ve vowed to take better care of my hair this year on a consistent basis, because I’ve really been beating it up! As a former hairstylist, I know what it takes and I should call hair 911 on myself—but I’ve truthfully just been kind of distracted in the past year. There are two sides to this story; one of them revolves around using the essential products for the health and condition of the hair strand, while the other side relates to just using the right styling products to achieve your hair’s full style potential. And I have been doing neither on a consistent basis. Shame on me, I’ll even let you use my cuffs!
Matrix recently introduced five new products, their Total Results Collection for instant hair gratification, which is exactly what I need. While all five weren’t for me, several of them were! Here’s the breakdown so you know what’s the best fit for you…
Matrix Curl Super Defrizzer Gel
This super lightweight gel is pretty amazing. I don’t have curly hair, but I was able to do a light scrunch with this for slight waves that were neither crunchy or sticky. I also tried it as a blowout product from mid-shaft to ends while using their Wonder Boost Root Lifter—and was pleasantly surprised by its ability to softly control my fine hair. Most gels are too hard for my hair, and most mousses are sticky, but this kind of melts in my hands. It’s just the right amount of perfect! Defrizzer Gel contains jojoba oil and wheat starch to control frizz while offering up a slightly shiny style.
Matrix Color Care Miracle Treat 12 Lotion Spray
This is easily my favorite product of the bunch! I have color-treated hair, and let’s face it—I’m not giving that up anytime soon. But it can look and feel dry, and the color looks a bit dull when I don’t take care of it. If you are a lazy hair girl, listen up! This product is for YOU. It’s your all-in-one for tangles, preventing breakage, conditioning, smoothing the cuticle, protecting your color, and the whole kitchen sink. Miracle Treat 12 is like an instant haircare genie in a bottle for me, and ever since I’ve had it, I’ve used it every time I’ve washed my hair. Each time, I’m reminded of why I like it so much—because it works! (And it doesn’t hurt that it smells great too.)
Matrix Amplify Wonder Boost Root Lifter
Having fine hair, I know about flat roots all too well! Wonder Boost to the rescue…
This has a directional spray nozzle that allows you to get to the base of your hair to create volume, especially if you use a round brush while blowing out. You know how you have to use starch to keep dress shirts crisp while ironing? This is kind of like a root starch, if you will—but it’s not super stiff or crunchy. It gives it the ability of control, right where you need it.
Matrix Sleek Silk Wonder Smoothing Oil
This one may not have been for me, but I can definitely see this helping people with medium, coarse, or curly hair who want the look of completely sleek hair. Sleek Silk Wonder Smoothing Oil (say that five times, really fast) contains olive oil, shea butter, and carrot oil to ward off frizzy hair, while adding a ton o’ shine. Work it mid-shaft to ends on your finished style so you don’t go overboard.
Matrix Moisture Cure 2-Phase Treatment
Wait a sec. Didn’t we just cover leave-ins with Miracle Treat 12? But the truth is, this is totally different! Moisture Cure is an actual treatment for hair lacking hydration, but it feels much lighter then Miracle Treat 12. It has two layers of ingredients which you’ll shake to activate for softness, and then spritz to your heart’s content so it can get where it needs to go. And that would be the weakest and driest parts of the hair strand, so Moisture Cure injects a little TLC by temporarily filling-in the gaps. It contains apricot oil to smooth the hair, and glycerin to keep moisture in, and everyday pollutants out.
