Review & Swatches: Too Faced Summer Eye Summertime Sexy Eyeshadow Palette

Due to overwhelming popular demand, I couldn’t wait any longer to give you the full preview of Too Faced’s summer collection! I’m starting with the most popular piece from the collection that people are already talking about—the Summer Eye Summertime Sexy Eyeshadow Palette. Too Faced has successfully launched several different varieties of nine-pan palettes; like spring’s Natural at Night, and last year’s Matte Eye. Summer Eye will likely be another blockbuster hit for Too Faced, because they’re not fixing what’s not broken. Summer Eye follows the same winning path as the previous palettes—cute and compact packaging, tutorial cards, and beautiful shades of shadow. It’s a can’t-lose formula for sure.

Shades included:

  • Sugar Sand — shimmery dusty rose
  • Peach Fuzz — shimmery golden peach
  • Sunbeam — pale gold shimmer
  • Plumeria — vivid pink pearl
  • Coral Crush — coral pink shimmer
  • Mermaid — muted teal pearl
  • Cocoa Beach — plum brown shimmer
  • Chocolate Sun — shimmery rich brown
  • Toasted Coconut — matte caramel

A closer look…

In typical Too Faced style, the quality of each eyeshadow is pretty consistent across the board. They feel super smooth to the touch and blend out nicely. The pigment payoff is pretty impressive, especially considering that I didn’t use any primer in the swatch photo. The two most fair shades, Peach Fuzz and Sunbeam aren’t really showing up on my arm because I’m so pale, but they’re really there! There’s a gorgeous iridescent glow to both of them, which you really can’t fully appreciate until you see them in-person. I think that by doing warmer versions of these punchy shades, Summer Eye dodges Rainbow Bright territory and makes them that much more wearable. These are still on-trend shades, but they’re slightly subdued, which I think will make them appealing to a wider audience.

Bottom Line…

Summer Eye didn’t disappoint me in the quality or pigment department, as I seem to consistently have good luck with Too Faced eyeshadows. If there was one thing I could change, I would lessen the glitter on the crease shades (Chocolate Sun and Cocoa Beach), then focus more on the pearl finish. Then it would be pretty close to perfect!

I love this! I just wish Peach Fuzz wasn’t in it though because I already have two of them from their previous holiday palettes (Enchanted Glamourland & Sweet Dreams). Thanks for the swatches. I’m loving the Coral one :)

  • Celine

You rock! Thanks so much for this review, I NEED and will be getting this. This will be my first Too Faced palette and I’m so excited! That coral crush shade, and the pinks really draws me in.

  • Shelly

These are some gorgeous colors!!! They are just enough out of my “usual” comfort zone (I consistently use Too Faced “Fun in the Dark) but not so much that I would buy it and not feel comfortable using the colors! I stumbled upon your review on Twitter and loved it! I definitely will be a fan of your blog, I can see!!! Thank you for such a great review with such great pictures!!!!

Hi Shelly, Celine, and Lisa— Thank you ladies SO much. I’m glad you like the post :)

Celine, WHAT? You don’t have a Too Faced palette yet? We need to change that!

  • Alyza

This is for sure going to be my first Too Faced palette as well, it’s just so pretty and there’s such a nice variety of shades! This will be a great big ticket item to end the no-buy that I’ve been on for almost six months.

What do you use to apply the Too Faced eyeshadows? I always LOVE the colors, but have a tough time getting them to stick and blend with a fluffy brush. I’ve had the most luck with the sponge applicator it comes with (I know, weird) but now that is shot.

This looks like a really wearable palette color wise. The only one I don’t care for is sugar sand – too frosty. Agree about the glitter in the crease shades, makes it hard for me to wear them as daytime looks.

  • Amber

@h2peters — I still use a brush, but I wouldn’t use a fluffy one unless I’m blending. I use a standard eyeshadow brush like this one:

It helps if you pat it on the lid too instead of sweeping it back and forth. Hope that helps! (A sponge applicator works too! I buy them by the boatload inexpensively from Sally Beauty Supply.)

  • Amber

@Alyza How in the world did you manage a 6 month no-buy? That must take serious restraint.

I totally agree Amber–the brighter shades are not so scary–I like that they appear more dusty than straight up bright. Very pretty palette and the colors are perfect for summer! Now if we could only get rid of this snow :(

Thank you so very much for the great pics and swatches of this little gem. I have to collect all of these Too faced palettes and this one is no exception. I saw it on another blog, but not the up close love you gave it here. Thank you so very much!!! I found your blog doing a Yahoo search for Summer Eye photos, thanks again.
