Review: Neutrogena Naturals Skincare Collection

I want to say it was late last year that I first had an experience with a few of the products in the Neutrogena Naturals line of skincare products, and I was truly impressed with them. I didn’t really go too in-depth with them however, and I’ve had a second opportunity to explore the line-up as a whole. I kept two of my original favorites from the line (and have consistently had them sink-side and in my shower ever since). But I also added two products from the line-up into my regimen, and with pleasant results. Let’s take a closer look!

The four products I’ve been really consistent with using lately…

  • Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Facial Cleanser
  • Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Pore Scrub
  • Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer
  • Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm

I still have my original bottle (I’ve since received a second) of the Purifying Facial Cleanser at my bathroom sink. I use it almost every night after I take my makeup off to remove what’s left of the day! I have combination skin, with a tendency to get a ton of clogged pores if any impurities are left behind. One of the things I really liked about the cleanser, is that it has Willowbark (a form of salicylic acid)—and what it’s known for is its ability to help detox a gunked-up pore. Now, I don’t know about you—but that’s a benefit I need! And as a result, I’ve found it to be really helpful, especially when paired up with a motorized facial cleansing brush.

On the flip-side, I have found that if I use this for both AM and PM cleansing, it can make my skin feel a little taut; but in all honesty, when used at night, followed up with a moisturizer, I’m good to go! Another thing I really like about this cleanser is the fragrance. It reminds me of fresh green apples, and I love it! I don’t think it’s too much, and I didn’t think it had a synthetic-like feel to it at all.

More photos and product details…

Purifying Facial Cleanser

One of the points of difference that I wanted to point out, is that Neutrogena really strives to make these products as natural as they possibly can, without minimizing the product efficacy. That’s sometimes a delicate balance and a huge missed opportunity in the mass marketplace. Because they’re often natural, or effective, and it’s hard to find both. (At least that’s been my experience.) Additionally, I like seeing exactly HOW these proclaimed natural ingredients are sourced, and on the back of each product, Neutrogena has done that for us. I’ve included the back of all my fave products from the line so you could check them out for yourself.

Purifying Pore Scrub

The Purifying Pore Scrub is in my shower, and I use it every morning. It’s a very gentle exfoliant that I feel comfortable using daily. It’s a quick way to start my morning off with fresh skin! It also contains Willowbark, so blackheads…be gone! It doesn’t take the place of my regular weekly peels where I do a majority of the skin-detox work, but it’s a great maintenance product for me.

Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer

I really liked how light the Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer felt on my skin. It wore well underneath my makeup, and on days when I wore it alone when not leaving the house. If there was one thing I could change about this—it would be the inclusion of a sunscreen. I don’t ever want to be without sunscreen, and if I had to leave the house wearing only this, I wouldn’t be protected. Additionally, my skin tends to be really sensitive to Vitamin C, and I didn’t have a single problem with the C irritating my skin here. Very impressive!

Lip Balm

This was a nice, basic lip balm to tote around in my purse. I don’t think it feels waxy at all, and it’s kind of refreshing with a soft minty feel. It’s loaded with natural oils and butters and made my lips feel adequately hydrated. Olive oil, shea, jojoba, and Vitamin E? Yes please!

As a whole, the line averages out to be 95% naturally-derived, and is free of harsh chemical sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, dyes, and phthalates. They’ve introduced a higher-level of sustainability with this line, with more post consumer recycled content in the bottles and packaging, and was created in a partnership with Nature Conservancy, a global organization dedicated to protecting natural sources of clean water for people, plants, and animals.

I’m impressed!

I use the Purifying Facial Cleanser and love it. Its the only cleanser that gets every bit of the gunk off my face making it feel very clean. I haven’t tried the exfoliator but plan on doing so.

  • Amber

Yay, Sharon! I’m so glad to hear you find it as effective as I do. I like that the exfoliator has small microbeads, so it’s kind of hard to over-do it!

Amber – How would you say this line compares to Juice Beauty. I have combination/oily skin and Juice is the closest I’ve come to an all organic product line that works. However, if Neutrogena is comparable, I’d like to give their products a try. Thank you!

  • Amber

Hi Keri, In all honesty—I wouldn’t compare the two at all! Juice Beauty is really special in the sense that ALL of their products are sourced from certified organic sources, among other things that truly put them in a class of their own. I wouldn’t be able to compare them because the two lines are totally different. Not in bad ways, just that they’re two philosophies. I like that Neutrogena has made a step in the right direction in the mass marketplace, however!

Thanks Amber! That’s all I needed to know.

I ran out of my regular Neutrogena Combination Skin moisturizer and when I went to pick some up at the drugstore, the Naturals Moisturizer caught my eye. I moisturize AM and PM after I wash my face in the morning and before bed. I just tried it and it feels way less heavy than the moisturizer I was using and the scent is pleasant. I plan to get the Purifying Facial Cleanser now that I learned it has a natural source of salicylic acid which helps a lot with the minor breakouts and blackheads I get. I’m currently using Neutrogena’s Pink Grapefruit Acne Wash. Nice post! Very informative!
