Sponsored: How To Prep Your Skin For a Pool Party

You just received an invitation to a pool party, now what? My normal inclination is to politely decline, but you know what—the next one I’m invited to, I’m GOING! Because I’ve got the bare skin confidence to go, even if I’m not quite ready for a teeny bikini yet. (I’m a work in progress!) I’ll still be pool party ready in my tankini with these incredibly easy tips to prep my skin.

Here’s what I’ll do to prep…

Exfoliate

Over the years, I’ve found that sugar scrubs are best for me when exfoliating before a self-tanning session. There are new ones on the market that still hydrate your skin without leaving an oil slick behind (which can interfere with successful self-tanning). I pay special attention to the most troublesome parts of my skin; my knees (especially), elbows, around my ankles, and the top of my feet.

Hair Removal

I’ve had my Philips Satin Perfect epilator for a few months now, and truth be told—I didn’t want to love it at first. I was afraid that it would hurt, but now I use it on my legs, underarms, and bikini line! There are several heads that you can switch out, so you always have one that’s perfect for the area you’re removing hair from. I can go from shaving my legs, to trimming my bikini line in a matter of seconds. Don’t have a Satin Perfect? That’s okay! Just use your preferred method of hair removal prior to the next step.

Self-Tanning Application

I am a HUGE advocate for sunscreen, which means that my ‘tan’ has to be a faux-tan, for sure! Always make sure that you’re following the directions for the specific self-tanner you’ve chosen to give you your glow, but there’s one thing I always like to do to prep. I like to apply a thin layer of moisturizer to my knees, elbows, and on my ankles to help avoid those areas from getting too dark. Additionally, I’ll apply moisturizer to my cuticles to act as a ‘barrier’, so I don’t wind up with self-tanner on them. I also like to choose a self-tanning product with a color-guide, that way I wind up with less surprises!

Give myself a cute mani-pedi

I’ll pick a bright nail polish color and give myself a cute mani-pedi that makes a splash!
