I can’t believe that summer is just heating up, but in the cosmetics world, we’re already bidding summer collections adieu! China Glaze releases 12 new shades this month for fall, in their On Safari Collection. Two of those shades surprised me by being glitters, and there’s one really good Chanel dupe in the bunch! Ready for the ‘On Safari’ adventure?
Desert Sun, I Herd That, Kalahari Kiss, I’m Not Lion

Exotic Encounters, Elephant Walk, Jungle Queen, Man Hunt
Purr-fect Plum, Adventure Red-y, Prey Tell, Call of the Wild
Swatches…
Purr-fect Plum is a bold burgundy crème.
Prey Tell is a vampy dark red crème.
Man Hunt is a bold cobalt blue crème.
Kalahari Kiss is a light sand stone crème, which borders on the cooler side of khaki.
Jungle Queen is a smoky iridescent violet which makes it a great dupe for Chanel’s Paradoxal. (Dupe images are at the end of this post.) While two coats covers most of the nail, you’ll see some spots where a third should have been used. I couldn’t really see these areas until they were under the lights.
I’m Not Lion is a fun and glistening gold and multi-tonal glitter, great for layering over darker polish colors.
I Herd That is a brilliant copper glitter.
Exotic Encounters is a lush green crème with blue undertones. This turned out to be one of my fave shades, in addition to Kalahari Kiss, and Man Hunt!
Elephant Walk is a shimmering cool graphite grey.
Desert Sun is a delicious caramel crème.
Call of the Wild is a chocolate brown-dark cherry blend; I didn’t expect it to be so gorgeous, but it would up being a fave of mine!
Adventure Red-y is a vivid red crème.
Jungle Queen/Chanel Paradoxal dupes…
Paradoxal (left), Jungle Queen (right)
On the nail, these are pretty close, and nearly indistinguishable. I think Jungle Queen is a suitable dupe for Paradoxal.
Bottom Line…
I think there are some really good buys in On Safari! While some of the darks may seem like standard fall colors, Kalahari Kiss and Desert Sun surprised me because they’re typically not mainstream shades, so way to go China Glaze. I really like Exotic Encounters too, that will definitely be one of my fall colors for sure. I did spy these out at my local Sally Beauty Supply yesterday, so hopefully they’re on the shelves at yours too!
Price & availability…
The China Glaze ‘On Safari‘ collection will be available at fine salons and beauty supply stores nationwide in July 2012. Individual polishes retail for $7 MSRP; the 6-piece sets retail for $42 MSRP.
