Last month, I had the privilege of attending an event for the CEW, Cosmetic Executive Women. The panel consisted of QVC’s ‘Rising Stars’, and the gorgeous Mally Roncal was one of the speakers. While Mally Roncal isn’t affiliated with Tarte Cosmetics, she said something that totally rang true for me—and it was about how excited she feels when she sees the red ‘Today’s Special Value’ graphics on QVC every night, as a fresh TSV starts airing. I couldn’t help but giggle, because I feel exactly the same way! I imagine this TSV from Tarte will quickly earn ‘sold out’ status on Friday, because the ‘What Has Your Makeup Done For You Lately?’ set is bursting at the seams for a ridiculously reasonable price.

While this isn’t a complete review for the products, I had to share the photos, swatches, and details!

Tarte ‘What Has Your Makeup Done For You Lately?’ QVC Today’s Special Value for 7/13/12

A portion of the proceeds of this special set will benefit SAP, the Sustainable Amazon Partnership; an organization that helps promote sustainable management of the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest.

What’s inside:

  • LipSurgence Lip Shine in ‘Smitten’
  • Pure Maracuja Oil Rollerball
  • Retoucher Flawless finish Bamboo Foundation Brush
  • Maracuja Miracle 12-Hour Foundation with SPF 15
  • ModernEyes Waterproof Creaseless Shadow/Liner
  • Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara

More photos, swatches, and details…

The main star of this set is the new Maracuja Miracle Foundation. It’s a brand new product that I think will be a QVC exclusive for a bit, but don’t hold me to that. This foundation formula from Tarte is available in five shades, and I had the opportunity to swatch all of them below. I’m usually an NW15-NW20, and I was surprised by how dark both Fair and Light seemed on my face—I wouldn’t be surprised if you had to drop down a shade. I think it’s probably best for warm tones of normal to dry skin types—so if you’re on the oily side—stick with the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation. Maracuja Miracle offers buildable medium-to-full coverage.

The set comes with a new brush, it’s basically a stippling brush that buffs the foundation on, giving a soft-focus finish.

What’s this Maracuja stuff, anyway?

Good question! Maracuja oil is derived from the Amazonian passion flower. Kinda-sorta like argan oil (which comes from tree kernals, however), the flower is hand-pressed, which yields a very rich oil that contains a blend of powerful essential fatty acids, and vitamins. Tarte now utilizes maracuja oil in several of their products to help strengthen, hydrate, and brighten the skin, without leaving behind an oily film.

ModernEyes Waterproof Creaseless Shadow/Liner in Plumberry

This shadow/liner stick twists up, and the shadow side is SUPER soft. I would recommend not using too much pressure during application. I loved the way this blended out!

ModernEyes Waterproof Creaseless Shadow/Liner in Plum Brown

Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara

This is my favorite Tarte mascara formula to date, it adds volume and holds up all day.

LipSurgence Lip Shine in Smitten

This lippie is very hydrating and contains a zingy mint flavor/fragrance. It doesn’t twist up like the other LipSurgence pencils I own, but it comes with a sharpener that’s in the cap.

I know this isn’t a full review, but what type of coverage (sheer, medium, full) did you feel the foundation gave? Do you feel the fair color is more pink toned or yellow toned?  Thanks!

  • http://beautyjunkiesunite.com/ Amber

Hi Ann! The foundation is definitely more warm, on the yellow side, and the coverage is medium, but buildable to full coverage if desired :)

I’m thinking of ordering this set, but don’t know which color foundation would be better for me. I’m a MAC NW20 – do you know if Fair or Light would work better for me? Which one did you like and what’s your normal foundation shade?

  • http://beautyjunkiesunite.com/ Amber

Depending on the time of year, I can be an NW20 as well, and I found that while fair wasn’t the most perfect match for me, it was much better than light. The reason I chose fair is because I found these shades to warm up a little bit, which really made the light not-so-flattering after wearing for a few hours;) Hope that helps!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep Marajuca Oil in a ROLLER BALL!! NEED THIS!! I am a big fan….. can you tell? Haha! Thanks for the review x

I’ve had this kit for a couple weeks and I’m a NW20 with combination skin.  The foundation in Fair is very yellow-toned and darker than expected which was very disappointing. I don’t recommend it for combo/oily skin as I was shiny by noon, nothing I experience with their Amazonian clay foundation.  I’ll wait until winter to use it.  The eye cream, roller ball and mascara are nice but the rest of the kit falls short.  The brush sheds and is not a good choice for the foundation.  The LipSurgence is a slightly different forumula and has a sharpener which so far no reviews prefer.  The pencil/crayon is not comparable to their other products and IMHO does not apply smoothly.  I LOVE Tarte but lately the kits through QVC have been disappointing and of lower quality than their normal line.  I’m keeping the kit, but canceled my auto-delivery.

Thanks for your review! It always helps to hear from everyone!

I absolutely HATE that they made a Lipsurgence that needs sharpening, and pray this won’t be the wave of the future.

I love my Amazonian clay foundation (in the cool shades of Ivory and Light-Medium) that I bought at Sephora; QVC tends to only carry the yellow based shades.

    I’m passing on this one.

I have not had good luck with the Maracuja oil color products – they all move around on me and don’t stay put. I love, love the TARTE Amazonian Clay line of color products however and their Lipsurgance rocks! I have 6 fav shades in that lip product and my lips don’t peel from using it!

  • beachgal

Thanks for putting this up. I also find the color products in the Tarte Marajuca line move like heck on me – they don’t stay put and like you, I break though shine. My set of this already went back despite I wanted to keep this shade of Lipsurgence – I like the lipsurgence – did not notice this one had a different formula vs my other Lipsurgance shades. I had a horrible time with the first smuge liners in the Marajuca line. Many love, love the concealer in this line – I am more a fan again of the Amazonian clay concealer as well as the 2 foundations in Amazonian clay – the Smooth Operator and the Full Coverage Foundation ones.

Do you know if the QVC TSV has the eye cream included? I do not see it in any pictures except what you are showing.

  • http://beautyjunkiesunite.com/ Amber

While it wasn’t listed on the promotional information I received, I believe it’s included as a deluxe sample but not mentioned. I noticed that Karen from Makeup and Beauty Blog had it in photos as well.

Do you know where we can purchase the maracuja c-brighter eye treatment separately?  I can’t seem to find it anywhere… thanks!
