Review & Swatches: Pixi by Petra Illuminating Tint & Conceal Tinted Moisturizer & Concealer w/SPF 20

Yesterday, I reviewed a BB cream, but today’s complexion product is a bit different. When the Pixi Illuminating Tint & Conceal arrived, I removed it from the box and thought, “What the heck?”

That quickly turned into, “Whoa, this is AMAZING.”

Illuminating Tint & Conceal is a multi-tasking product with two parts. The component houses a concealer at the tip which is covered by a clear cap. You can unscrew the concealer top, and then there’s a tube of tinted moisturizer. I didn’t want to like this combo packaging, but I ended up loving it. It’s functional—talk about making your packaging work for you! Two-in-ones often let me down. Here’s where there was an exception.

I wasn’t expecting the concealer to be so fantastic. If I sound like I’m gushing, well—I am. Because not only is it creamy without a hint of wax, but it’s easy to blend into the skin, gives me the perfect amount of coverage on all the red areas around my nose, and it just works. I found it easy to build to full coverage without looking caked on. The shade I received was No. 2 Bare Glow, but the product is available in four shades. I was worried that the No. 2 shade would be too dark, but once blended in, it was perfect. (I’m an NW20 this time of the year.)

The tinted moisturizer part of this duo is not your average tinted moisturizer. While it gives a tiny bit of coverage, it’s more of a bare-skin tinted luminizer. This wouldn’t be the kind of product you’d reach for as your daily tinted moisturizer in my opinion—but when you want a bare-skin, ethereal, my skin is glowing kind of look—this is one of the things you can reach for. As I apply this on my skin, it looks like it wants to be really warm and I feared it would oxidize—but hand to heart—it did not shift colors. Instead, I had a glowy and fresh-faced dewy radiance to my skin for the afternoon. And it was 90 degrees, so I think that contributed to some of that dew!

Regardless, I was really happy with the performance of both of the products here and I’m keeping this in my beauty arsenal. OH! I almost forgot! Pixi added a titanium and zinc dioxide-based SPF 20 here. While I never rely solely on my makeup for UV protection, I appreciate that an SPF was included here.

According to Pixi, there are several skin beneficial ingredients here; ginko biloba, vitamins A, C, & E, and lysine. They also state that the product is free of parabens, triclosan, sulfates, and pthalates.

Bottom Line…

While the $30 price tag may be a little steep for a brand that sells at Target, this is more of a prestige product than others you’ll find in the mass aisles. The pearlized minerals in the tinted moisturizer give a great, healthy glow to my skin, and the concealer is fantastic.

I love this and its great as a summer face product. Gives you a little coverage and really makes the skin look bright & healthy. The concealor can be a little dry at first. But it works in great once its warmed up on the skin. Great review too

I’m excited to see this review.  I’m always walking by the Pixi section at Target and looking at it wistfully.  It always catches my eye with the pretty, feminine packaging, but then I think “this is a little pricey for Target”, and keep movin’ on.  I wouldn’t think twice about shelling out $30 for a foundation at Sephora, why does it bother me at Target?  I guess we have these preconceived ideas in our head about where ‘good’ makeup products come from.  I’m glad to see you are busting those myths!  I really enjoy that your complexion is almost (but not quite) as fair as mine and I can trust your reviews.  Keep ‘em coming and thanks for all the hard work!  I’ll definitely take a closer look at the Pixi section next time at Target.  Who knows – I may even buy something!!

I’m SO glad I’m able to help! I know what you mean about that aisle at Target though. When I see all the Napoleon Perdis, Jemma Kidd, and Pixi—I’m interested but the price always turns me away. And then I have to remember I’m in the “prestige” aisle, LOL
