Review & Swatches: bareMinerals SPF 20 Correcting Concealer

I have been hearing the whispers about a new concealer from bareMinerals for a while now, and up until a few weeks ago, I wasn’t sure if it was really fact or fiction. I’m happy to say, it’s fact—and I finally got my little mitts on it! This new complexion product from the bareMinerals product lineup officially launches in August, and it’s called the SPF 20 Correcting Concealer. It’s quite different than their existing concealers, as these are actually creamy in consistency. Let’s take a closer look!

bareMinerals SPF 20 Correcting Concealer

The SPF 20 Correcting Concealer will launch in eight shades, five of which are pictured. They are very rich, pigmented, and super creamy, combined with sun protection. These multi-taskers also contain copper—a mineral colorant that helps disguise skin imperfections, while lemon peel extract works as a botanical skin brightener.

Launching in shades:

  • Light 1
  • Light 2
  • Medium 1
  • Medium 2
  • Tan 1
  • Tan 2 (not pictured)
  • Dark 2 (not pictured)
  • Deep 2 (not pictured)

It looks like the number 1 in each shade has a cooler base, while the number 2 in each shade is warmer. I say ‘looks like’, because I haven’t seen Dark 2 or Deep 2 in person yet, but it makes sense to me. I’m currently wearing Fairly Light in bareMinerals foundation, and I convert to Light 1 pretty seamlessly! SPF 20 Correcting Concealer does a fantastic job of hiding the broken capillaries around my nose and on my chin. In the past week, I’ve also worn this under my eyes without incident—no creasing or caking, and it has stayed put.

The texture is very creamy, and not at all waxy or hard. I find the coverage to be pretty buildable. It’s really up to you how you’ll want to apply them. I’ve applied it both with a finger, and with a synthetic concealer brush. As long as you keep your brushes clean, using a concealer brush is probably the most hygienic and easy way to apply, but this does also blend out nicely when I tap it on with a finger. The finish is nice and silky, and makes my skin look even and smooth.

One thing I learned is that a little goes a long way! While these aren’t as heavy duty as something like a Dermablend concealer for instance, these are plenty pigmented to conceal minor imperfections like acne marks, moderate dark circles, broken capillaries, redness, and other skin discolorations. I’m able to apply powder foundation on top of this after giving it a few minutes to set without incident. I was afraid it would cake up, but not so!

Bottom Line…

These were well worth the wait! I find the new bareMinerals SPF 20 Correcting Concealer to feel creamy and silky, and offer perfect coverage for the day-to-day skin imperfections I face. If you are worried about this creasing under the eye area or are having issues with it creasing—I recommend applying it over primer—it should help! I wear Fairly Light foundation, too, and Light 2 works well for me. Maybe my skin is more neutral? I’ll probably check out Light 1 in the boutique once it launches, but I ordered mine from bareescentuals.com during the preview a couple of weeks back.

That said, I really like it, too. It stays on very well, doesn’t cake or smear, and covers nicely. I have two young children, so I have some dark circles from lack of sleep. I felt good about the coverage.

That is a very appropriate price for these if they are as good as you say they are. I like how it has the spf because I think that would be nice for the under eye area as most concealers don’t have the added benefit of spf.

Hi Rebekah, my skin has a lot of pink in it, and Light 2 pulls very golden on me. But I’m glad to hear how versatile these are!

The price is excellent! I’d definitely consider trying :)

These look lovely!  When I run out of my many opened concealers, I think I’ll definitely take a look at these.

I’m so glad bareMinerals is switching over to cream formulas. I’ve often over looked products because I’m not a fan of minerals.  I will definitely check these out with the $20 price tag..not bad at all! How do you think this compares to the Benefit erase paste as far as coverage and texture?

  • http://beautyjunkiesunite.com/ Amber

Eek! I can’t find my Erase Paste to do a comparison, sorry! I like that bareMinerals will now have both formulas to choose from, I think they are filling in a huge gap :)

Thanks for the swatches. It comes in yellow tones which is a relief. Love that it has SPF. 20 is pretty high for a concealer. I don’t know about concealers in a pot though. They tend to get kind of messy.

How well does this layer under the eyes with their mineral under eye brightener? I find that I need to conceal first and then use the brightener.

  • Lulillan_75

Too bad there is none for really fair people who wears foundation in fair…? To me Fairly Light foundation is quite yellow based and Fair is more cool toned and lighter of course. Maybe Light 1 could work if you are not too pale?

That’s a good question! I wouldn’t be the best person to answer since I haven’t tried that yet though. Can anyone else help?

  • http://beautyjunkiesunite.com/ Amber

Certain times of the year, I wear Fair–give the Light 1 a shot!

Before I got this, I’d use foundation then Bisque and Well Rested under my eyes. I’ve tried this alone and also concealer-foundation-Bisque-Well Rested, and it works both ways. I also use an eye color called Eye Bright on my lids immediately after primer and dust what’s left on the brush under my eyes. I don’t have any issues using them together.

No worries on the comparison. I’ll check it out next time I’m in Ulta. I have a million concealers to keep me busy until then!

Hahaha! Believe me, I know the feeling!

I picked it up in Light 2, I wear Golden Fair. I could probably layer both to cover circles. It’s not as opaque as I had hoped but it’s something I can wear on a “good face day”.
