Review: Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion

Urban Decay is always a such badass when it comes to makeup, so I was eager to give their Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion a try.

I’m a big fan of primers because they set the stage for smooth, long-lasting makeup application and keep your face fixed. Urban Decay did not disappoint in this regard. After applying a pea-sized dab to my finger and dotting it on my forehead, cheeks and chin and rubbing into my skin in an upward motion, I could feel my skin surface evening out. My foundation stayed in place all day and didn’t transfer or streak.

As a basic primer, this does the job perfectly. However, the name also promises to “brighten and tighten”, but after a week of use I didn’t see much of a difference in this regard. For me, this knocks off a whole star on my rating because it is a claim they make that did not deliver.

On the other hand, there are a few other side notes that are worth mentioning. First, this is a 1 ounce tube, which is quite a bang for your buck. Second, this primer doesn’t contain silicone which is a big plus if you have sensitive skin and are afraid of break-outs. Third, it is effective enough to use by itself on days when you want to give your skin a breather and go without foundation.

Bottom Line…

A great primer to create a smooth canvas for your masterpiece, but not a superstar brightener/tightener.

I have a million primers in my drawer right now.  I didn’t see anything in the review that made me think “wow, I gotta have this right now”.  That being said, one of the primers currently residing in my drawer is the Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Primer and it is one of my favorites.  It was my go to primer until I received a sample of Smashbox’s new Photo Finish Luminizing Primer. I’m loving it! It’s great for achieving that summer ‘glow’.
