I am a sucker for packaging and when I saw these ice-blue rough glass baubles staring back at me, I had to do my best not to judge a book by its cover. After two weeks of using Freya Scandinavian Skin Science, I’ve decided that like any good book, there are ups and downs. Freya is an arctic marine-based skin care system that pays homage to traditional Scandinavian skin care, while infusing some modern science into the fold. Let’s take a closer look!
Arctic Cleansing Water: An amazing light cleanser that makes skin feel refreshed and clean. It’s kind of like soapy water with a tiny hint of fragrance. Directions suggest applying it to a cotton ball and massaging it on your face and neck; no rinsing necessary. However, after a few uses, I felt it was necessary to do a rinse with cool water and continued that practice. Otherwise, my face had residue on it that drove me crazy.
Firming Eye Cream: This cream can be used day or night. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave much of a residue, so it is possible to use during the day. However, I like to use eye creams at night. The key ingredient in this is LEXA Complex which is a special blend that includes Arctic salmon roe, marine minerals and vitamins. They tout it is an “active” eye cream and I’ll be honest—the first two times I used it I felt slight tingling.
Intensive Anti-Aging Serum: Promises to rebuild skin’s youthful structure by way of their special LEXA Complex along with light diffusers, antioxidants and other vitamins and minerals. This was my personal favorite in the whole line; it was light, not greasy, absorbed into my skin and after a few days I felt like my skin was brighter and had a more even tone.
Restorative Night Cream: In addition to the LEXA Complex and other key ingredients found in the rest of the line, this product also contains Sodium Hyaluronate which helps act as a skin hydrator. It boasts the ability to help skin look plumper (i.e. fill in those wrinkles) the cream was rich and velvety. I would say it almost borders on the line of being decadent!
Hydrating Day Cream: Chock full of the same key ingredients, but also Norwegian Bilberry, Cloudberry and Lingonberry to protect the skin and battle against free radicals. I loved the feel of this cream, it has the PERFECT consistency for a day cream, but my heart sank when I learned there is no SPF in it. For me, if a cream is going to be called a “day” cream, SPF should be an ingredient, no questions asked.
This line is very cohesive and delivers results. I felt like my skin looked refreshed and hydrated. However, I do think there are some clear champions that stick out above the rest of the line and could be used on their own.
Bottom Line…
A decent skin care line, but definitely some products you could use on their own.
