Review: JOICO Smooth Cure Sulfate-Free Shampoo & Conditioner

When I write my reviews, I make it a rule to not research the MSRP for any of the products I test. I don’t want the dollar signs to sway my opinion one way or the other. However, JOICO Smooth Cure Sulfate-Free Shampoo & Conditioner got the best of me. I was guessing it was around $30 for a 10.1 oz. bottle. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised—shocked actually!

I have thick, coarse hair that is getting pretty out of control with layers and length. It’s been a challenge all summer to keep my locks tame during this sweltering heat—it’s been a battle of the frizzies all summer and I’ve been losing desperately.

After one use of their shampoo and conditioner, I experienced a noticeable difference in the smoothness of my hair. My hair stayed down but still maintained body and bounce. After a quick check of ingredients, I would bet that’s due to the hydrolyzed keratin in the shampoo. It not only protects hair, but forms a strong, flexible shield on the hair’s surface.

Add Tucuma oil and Brazilian nut butter into the mix, and it balances out with moisture and lipids to help repair dry, damaged hair and nourish that mane. All of that—in addition to JOICO’s own Quadramine Complex; an exclusive blend of low molecular weight and size proteins that adheres quickly and effectively to ensure maximum protection and reconstruction from the cuticle to the cortex—and you have a powerful combo of superheroes to fight the frizzies!

Sidenote: I also had KILLER results a few weeks ago with JOICO’s Humidity Blocker Finishing Spray, review featured here.

One teeny tiny quip—the packaging. (Are you seeing a trend with my reviews?) I love the bottles, but they look IDENTICAL. The only difference is the conditioner has the word “Conditioner” written on the bottle in white instead of orange. But the print is so small and when you are in the shower with suds in your eyes, it is pretty easy to confuse the bottles. My own quick fix to this was solved by putting a rubber band (think: the kind you get on your broccoli from the produce section) around the conditioner bottle. So I could tell at a glance, or feel my way around, to find the right bottle I needed to do the trick.

Also Available:

JOICO Smooth Cure Leave-In Rescue Treatment and Smooth Cure Thermal Styling Protectant to extend your smooth results and add more humidity protection.

Bottom Line…

Expensive shampoo and conditioner results for coarse, frizzy hair; with a minor investment.

Price & Availability…

Smooth Cure Shampoo 10.1 oz.—12.99, Smooth Cure Conditioner 10.1 oz.—14.99; professional salons nationwide
