Review: Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster SPF 50

by Dilara on September 26, 2012

in product reviews,skincare,sunscreen

You had me at SPF 50. If you know anything about me, I’m a sucker for sun protection.  After 2 weeks, this product has knocked my socks off.

Wear it alone, blend it with moisturizer, or try it mixed with your foundation—Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster has got you covered! I love this stuff because so many times I find a daytime lotion I love, but it lacks SPF. Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster can help fill in those gaps.

It doesn’t just protect your skin from sunburn, it contains UV Smart Booster Technology—which means it also protects your skin from free radicals. Dermalogica has encapsulated essential antioxidants vitamins C and E into a microcapsule that activates only when needed. So that means when your skin gets exposed to harmful UV rays, this stuff kicks into overtime to add extra protection.

Re-applying sun protection can sometimes be a hassle, but this 1.7oz bottle can easily be stashed into your purse and has a nice screw-top lid so you won’t have to worry about any spills. Also, it’s not greasy, sticky or tacky like you’d expect from a sunscreen—it feels just like a thin lotion which is why it blends great with any other product or is perfect for use on its own.

(Editors note: I love it just as much as Dilara does! I’m using a daytime moisturizer that doesn’t have any sunscreen, and I’ve mixed Solar Defense Booster in with it, works like a charm! I’m going to try it with foundation, too. –Amber)

Bottom Line…

Where have you been all my life? Must-have product for all skin types.

Too bad and sad to find out they are no longer Cruelty Free!!

Hi Sharon! Just to be fair, I also want to share Dermalogica’s recent
statements regarding this. I promise I’m not trying to engage in a debate
regarding this, but I have to be fair. Someone may read your comment
and not know the whole story. They have lost their Leaping Bunny
certification, but still claim not to animal test. Anyone who has any
questions regarding their testing policies, please refer to the brand
directly as I am not an employee or spokesperson for Dermalogica.

    “Dermalogica
does not, and has never, engaged in animal testing. We go to great
efforts to ensure that our supply chain and ingredient suppliers uphold
our values. We have recently become aware that the Chinese government
now requires animal testing of cosmetic products as part of their
product import registration process. Dermalogica does not condone animal
testing, and is in the process of actively withdrawing our product
registrations and undertaking the necessary actions to suspend our
distribution to the Chinese market. We urge the Chinese government to
consider non-animal, humane forms of safety testing.”

    In an updated, additional statement:

“We are no longer shipping product to our distributors in
China. Product may remain in the market for two reasons, however. The first is
that the local distributors will, no doubt, sell through their existing
inventory. The second is that product is often diverted into China. In fact,
this was occurring even when we had distributors, so it is likely to continue,
and perhaps even increase as we exit the market, given that we will not be
    there to police it.”

    :)

  • hei hade

Is a decent amount of this enough protetcion? I’ve heard you have to put A LOT of this on to get the benefits of the spf?

  • http://beautyjunkiesunite.com/ Amber

The product itself is pretty thin, but I wouldn’t say you have to put a lot of it on for protection. (Of course you’ll have to make sure all areas are covered.) I don’t recall Dilara or I having any protection issues when we wore this.
