Out & About: Thread Eyebrows in Los Angeles

In the past few years, I’ve become a total eyebrow threading advocate. While it may seem a little odd if you’ve never had it done before, or prefer to stick to traditional waxing, I’m all about it!

I find that in my area, a good eyebrow threading job is less than half the price of a good eyebrow wax/shaping. (SCORE!) I also like that I’m less red from threading than I get from waxing, and I also experience less chance of post-waxing bumps and breakouts.

Threading also pulls your delicate eyelids much less than waxing does. That residual pulling over time will eventually take its toll. I don’t need any help in the eyelid sagging department, thank you very much! And finally, it’s fast. In good hands, it takes about five to seven minutes for a good shaping job and clean up.

If I’ve sold you on the benefits of a good thread job, and you’re in the L.A. area (or visiting soon), don’t miss Thread Eyebrows on Melrose. Sure, it’s called “Thread Eyebrows” but they specialize in threading all of the areas on your face. Eyes, lip, chin, cheeks, they do it all—at prices that don’t gouge you like typical L.A. salons. Your brows will set you back $15, but I know of other salons in the area that charge $50 and up for eyebrow waxing—so take your pick! My technician got me in and out in a flash, and my brows were sharp and clean, just the way I like them.

You’re hilarious: “I don’t need any help in the eyelid sagging department, thank you very much!” Haha! I agree! The residual pulling of wax will eventually take its toll! That’s one of the main reasons why I got into threading. I love it! I have some hair on my face too so I’ve gotten my whole face done (sideburns), it’s a bit painful, but totally worth it!

Yes! I’m so glad you agree with me! I know some of those areas can be more ouch-inducing than others. I’ve luckily never had to do anything on my face, but I’d be squirming!

I’m so fair that my eyebrows are virtually non existent. Believe it or not, I’ve only had my eyebrows waxed twice in my life. I was never impressed either time. I don’t know if it’s because I’m so fair, or that I just wasn’t in capable hands. The first tech told me that eyebrows couldn’t be shaped. What?! The second tech said that wasn’t true and they looked better than the first, but I wasn’t totally ‘wowed’. I’ve seen some threading booths at the mall. At first, I didn’t know what the hell they were doing, but once I figured it out I was intrigued. I have never read a review on the process before, so thank you. I think I’ll give it a try if I can find a place that isn’t quite so public (middle of the mall) to try it!

That is so odd! (Not you, the techs!) Try checking Yelp for thread bars in your area, there might be something more private than at the mall with great reviews.

The first time, it might startle you, but pop a few ibuprofen before and relax. It’s really not bad 😉 Just don’t try getting your lip done yet. At least not the first time! LOL

    You lucky gal!

I’m a huge advocate as well… for the same reasons you state. I go to Ziba Beauty and consistently have the brows I want (not what someone else wants)

I’m going to have to check that out! It’d seen the store but I’ve never been in.
