Review & Swatches: MAC Guilty Passions Lavish Rose Lip Gloss Collection for Holiday 2012

For holiday 2012, MAC just released the cutest quartets of mini-size crushed pigments and lip glosses; the Guilty Passions Collection. Both the crushed pigments and glosses are available in three color stories, and I’ve been tinkering with the Lavish Rose lip gloss set. Let’s check it out!

Guilty Passions Lavish Rose Lip Gloss Collection

Packaged in a dainty round box adorned with a black plastic bow, you’ll find four shades of gloss in the Cremesheen and Dazzleglass families. The tubes are smaller than the Cremesheen lip glosses in the MAC core range, but they are super darling in their translucent tubes and black bows. While these are on the smaller side (0.09 & 0.07 US OZ each), I don’t feel cheated because they’re still pretty generous for being minis. Each wand has a different applicator that matches their respective formulations; the Cremesheen Glasses have a doe foot, and the Dazzleglass shades have a lip brush instead.

Shades included:

  • Demure Dazzleglass Creme — warm pink with blue pearl
  • Going Casual Cremesheen Glass — sheer lilac
  • Boys Go Crazy Dazzleglass — deep amethyst
  • Colour Saturation Cremesheen Glass — cool wine

If you don’t like sticky glosses at all, I recommend trying a Cremesheen, because they lack the “tack” that MAC Lipglass has. It’s just a comfortable formula that feels nice and smooth on my lips. I can slightly feel a little bit of grit from the shimmer inside of Boys Go Crazy, and Demure—but it’s really minimal in my opinion and it wouldn’t sway me from wearing them.

When it comes to the shade selection, I think these are all gorgeous—even if they aren’t really for me. Of the four, Demure is definitely the most wearable hue for me, but it slightly settles in my lip lines. I absolutely ADORE Boys Go Crazy too, but it’s one that I would have to wear as a top coat over a lipstick, since wearing it alone didn’t translate well on my natural lip color. I think it needs a darker, opaque base to really pop the amethyst sparkles!

Bottom Line…

While these aren’t the most long-wearing glosses I’ve ever tried, they do keep my lips feeling moist and comfortable. This is an attractive collection that’s perfect for holiday gifting your BFF! And if pink or purple isn’t her thing—there’s also a set of nudes or coral shades to choose from in the Guilty Passions Collection.

The packaging alone had me sold. But the swatches on your lips just confirms all of it. xoxo
