Review & Swatches: tarte Statement Lips 5-piece LipSurgence Collectors Set

Known for being very emollient and naturally beautiful on the lips, tarte offers a set of five LipSurgence lippies in a cute and affordable collector’s set for holiday gifting; the Statement Lips set. Shaped like chubby pencils, these self-propel when the base is twisted, which is perfect since sharpening pencils (especially chubby ones) can be kind of a pain! Here’s a closer look…

2 LipSurgence lip tints (the original formula, for a natural flush): in elite (sheer melon) & enchanted (sheer rose)
2 LipSurgence lip lusters (for a high dose of glossy color and shine): in sweet (shimmering peachy pink) & escape (shimmering pink)
1 LipSurgence matte lip tint (for a rich matte finish): in exposed (nude)

I really dig the formula of LipSurgence because it’s slightly minty, glides across my lips, and keeps them hydrated and healthy with essential oils and vitamins. If there was one thing I could change though, perhaps I’d make them just a little softer. Generally, I’d rather have my lippies a little bit stiffer than a soft and smooshy mess, but I think these could be a tad softer without affecting the integrity of the product.

In terms of value, Statement Lips is excellent. These are all full size, at $34 for five. An individual LipSurgence costs $24—see what I mean? And when it comes to picking favorites, I adore the matte shade, Exposed. It reminds me slightly of a “my lips but better” shade. I also like Sweet, because it’s just the perfect, simple everyday color with a hint of flattering shimmer.
