I don’t own many pieces from New York Color, but these lip balms are worthy of your time! With a darling moisturizing apple “core”, the Applelicious Gloss Lip Balms offer a healthy dose of shine, hydration, and a slight tint. This is a winning combination in a lip care product for me.

Applelicious Pink, Apple Blueberry Pie, Big Apple Red, Chocolate Apple

Available in 10 shades, this drugstore favorite is a decent size for the price—and it retails for about $3. It’s quite a steal! Not even the slightest bit sticky, Applelicious glides on easily and feels buttery smooth. The one caveat for you may be the initial apple fragrance. The most “apple” thing about these is the scent of them in the tube, and the apple core. While the scent does not linger long, there is a little bit of a synthetic apple taste for a few seconds. This is a blessing and a curse. Fans of truly flavored lip balms might be a little disappointed, and fans of flavor-free lip care products will likely be pleased.

I tried four of the 10 shades, and I have to say I liked them all. The colors aren’t as intense as they appear in the tube, but they offer more of a wash or slight tint. My favorite was Big Apple Red. It made my lips look like I was wearing Benefit Benetint, only my lips didn’t feel dry like when I use a stain. It quickly made it into my handbag for heavy rotation, and I presume I’ll be using every last bit of the product!

Bottom Line…

For a $3 slightly tinted lip balm, these are a pretty good value. I appreciate how hydrating they are, and I love how the shade Big Apple Red makes my lips look like I just ate a red popsicle! The color it leaves behind reminds me of Benefit Benetint.

I’m a lip gloss addict, but I’m weary of buying cheap ones. I bought one from a drugstore that every time I wore it left a nasty taste in my mouth without me even licking my lips. Gross. These look nice though, and for the price I would try a test tube and go for more if I liked it. Never can have to many lip glosses hanging around :)

I tried big apple red. It was great. A hint of tint (which I prefer) and moisture just as you said.

These are definitely worth the shot! If you’re especially sensitive, you may still detect a little bit of that synthetic taste that I was talking about. If you do give it a shot, let us all know what you think!

I’m about to head out and run some errands, I think I just might grab at tube while I’m at the store :). I will report back on taste later. Lol
