A year ago, if you told me I’d be wearing something super textured on my nails, I’d shake my head and laugh! Recently, other brands have tried to get us nail buffs to embrace the texture trend, but the one brand I think that really hit it on the head is ZOYA.
Normally, I have a hard time wearing glitters and textured nail colors for very long, because I have the incessant urge to touch them, and it gets a little annoying. With the ZOYA PixieDusts however? I’ll just suck it up, because the effects are GORGEOUS. Let’s check out the Fall 2013 PixieDust Collection…
Carter — cool royal purple matte with metallic sparkle texture
Just in case you’ve never worn PixieDusts before, they’re different in a few ways than traditional nail polish. For one, you don’t wear base coat or top coat. That’s right! No base coat! With the last collection, I wore base coat, and I found the formula actually chipped faster. So I’m going to take ZOYA’s word and skip it from now on. I think the formula is pretty durable. If you wear top coat, you’ll spoil the dimensional matte base with sparkle texture.
I find that the PixieDusts are thicker than traditional polish, so when applying, I’m super careful not to make my coats too thick. I find that it’s best to let the first coat dry before applying the second—which actually doesn’t take very long. But if you slap two coats on quickly, I think it will take longer to dry and for the matte effect to emerge. I suppose you could apply three coats if you wanted to, but I can really feel the product density on my nails with two coats, I don’t even want to think about applying a third! I find these to be completely opaque after two coats as well—so I’d be super surprised if you had any issues.
Dhara — warm fiery orange matte with metallic textured sparkling finish
Tomoko — cool champagne silver with matte finish and sparkling metallic silver texture
Arabella — cool rich fuchsia with matte base and sparkling textured finish
Chita — cool forest green with matte base and sparkling metallic finish
Sunshine — cool navy blue with matte base with metallic sparkling finish
I’ve been able to get 4 days of wear without a chip with PixieDusts, but kept it on for 5 with no problem—and that’s without base or top coat, so it’s pretty strong and adheres to the nail well. While these won’t be the first polishes I reach for in my collection, they sure are gorgeous and I’ll definitely be wearing Carter for fall! That amethyst is to die for, and I’m a February baby.
Will you be picking up any of the new Fall PixieDusts? What’s your fave shade(s)?
